Oar has had a slow, not to spectacular season thus far, but let it be said he was top class last season and made many team of the weeks and i think even team of the year if i remember correctly. He was also class in the Costa Rica friendly and our last Qualifier.
Where people get it wrong i think, is there expectations and what role many want him to offer. Because the fact is Oar isnt exactly your direct, speedster of a winger, hugging the touchline, getting around players whipping in crosses and geting on the end of through balls for a walcot style finish. Hes a creative attacking player, wether it be on the left or centre, and is at his best when his short and long passing game come to the fore, his left foot is dead accurate wether it be deep crosses or set pieces, and he actualy seems to blossom when dribbling through traffic in the middle of the field, not down the flanks one on one.
Long story short weve fallen in love with the direct and flair of Kruse, we want more of the same from Oar. Completely different players though. My little analogy or way to put it and excuse the exageration. But Oar is like a "Hazard" style player, you build a teams attacking style around them to reap the benefits. Kruse is like a "Robben" style, hes direct, skillful and capitalises on the space and balls provided to him.

Actually going down the flank then whipping in crosses is exactly how he's been playing all season. In fact it seems like it's the only thing he does in attack. It really has been quite disappointing how one dimensional he's become as a player.

Or has his performances for Heracles at LB far outweighed those as a centre defender? Actually in his one game at cb he was above average for his season. His last four games though he has been a class above the league. Young players can be inconsistent though. I think he has improved since his last roos game and I remember seeing his stats improved after that game. Same thi g happened with williams before he was injured There's an old adage that you don't strengthen one position by weakening another. The loss of Williams is massive but there are other CB options while at LB we have next to two thirds of fkall. Also good to hear DeVere is back playing. Talented boy, very unlucky with injuries. for me Davidson can play CB but you lose so much of what he can contribute. with Williams I think he is pretty decent at CB and RB while with Davidson it is he is ok at CB and great at LB. I think he has been underrated by many who have jumped of the brad smith hype train (nor talking on here but supporters in general). Smith has 3 years on Davidson but for me some suggestions of Smith going to the world cup this year as our first choose LB is a bit of a joke

Porta played this morning in Copa Libertadores , his team won 2-0 to win 2-1 on aggregate but he was subbed at half time (it was 1-0). I am guessing this was a playoff to get in to the comp

HT Preston NE vs Notts Forest. Kilkenny looking ok running things from back of MF, not sure if WC quality though.
Bailey Wright looks a real defender's defender - quick and hard, defends well. Great in the air too. Not yet convinced he is comfortable on the ball under pressure.
Preston down 1-0 for the record.

Obviously guys like Johnston and Vieri could have but chose not to, Zenon has simply never been called up, but for me should have been a Socceroo years ago.

He had a brief period of quality a couple of years ago - and hey, Cole and Jamo got caps too - but nowhere near the right standard.

Oar beating two midfielders with his feet and drawing a foul from a third. Much more than pace involved in that.
As you can see from formations posted around, Oar and Sarota are playing relatively centrally.

Good start from Sainsbury, winning the ball from behind the Utrecht striker. Calls for a foul waved off.

And after I say "relatively centrally" Oar works out wide as is surely his remit and puts in a killer cross, only just put over the crossbar by Zwolle's non-Sainsbury CB.

Very good goal by one of the Utrecht strikers. Ball in from the left (maybe from Oar, couldn't tell on this stream) came in front of the other CB and LB and the Utrecht striker spun the ball around them and shot. Sainsbury marking the other striker.
