My views of the Eredivisie in general were shot down a large amount after watching tonights game - my first Eredivisie game I've got to watch in a good 2-3 years.
I know on this forum there is the whole "Eredivisie, Bulli 2 or Belgium" but honestly I fail to see how the Eredivisie is any more a development league than the HAL is. I thought for large parts of that game Oar was hugely ineffective and disinterested, but he got man of the match? The Eredivisie to me seems like a faster, but not much more technically better, version of the HAL with just hideous cases of individual and team defending.
The first half Oar looked good maybe 2 or 3 times, all when played through with gems from Ayoub. And while the assist was nice, the defender was laughably awful and Oar should never have been able to recover that ball. The second half he played a narrowed role and played more on the right, and apart from the assist (which was a nice ball - but like I said earlier should never, ever have been a goal with a capable centre back there) I thought was relatively MIA and rarely looked even remotely keen to defend. Also, if I can disregard the fact that the second assist was a right foot pass, Oar is ridiculously unprofessionally awkward with anything but his left foot, particularly when controlling the ball and dribbling.
Nickk - agreed, Ayoub didn't look as good in the second half. I put it largely down to the much narrower game Utrecht played. The dude is only 19 or 20, my googling says, so I still stand by my comment that he'll be a big player one day.

Edited by pv4: 25/8/2014 12:38:22 AM I think it would be unfair to judge a whole league on just one game, early on in the season no less. Take that same thinking and use it towards the a league last season. Take say a game between Perth and Newcastle and use it to judge the league, then take a game between Brisbane and Victory and you would have a completely different league

There are absolutely woeful games played in the EPL not that uncommonly too. Could just as easily write off the EPL as a weak and way overrated league if you judged too quickly.

Edited by pv4: 25/8/2014 12:38:22 AM I thought it was clear Oar was instructed to stay out to provide an outlet on the counterattack. The pass from Oar was perfect, the center back fell over but it was going to end up on the other side of him , if the center back stayed on his feet all he might have had the opportunity to foul the player and get a red card. If there was a player who should been contesting the ball on the other side it should have been WIlkshire but he was easily out paced. Ayoub seem to do a lot of good ball winning and the had acres of space and time to pass it, and Oar was sitting free to his right where the tunnel visiion couldn't see him. Maybe if he passed it to Oar he could have done more in the game.

Edited by pv4: 25/8/2014 12:38:22 AM One of the reasons I have a pretty high view of the a-league. These leagues provide a good stepping stone into Europe where players play more games and get into the shop windows of bigger clubs.

Edited by pv4: 25/8/2014 12:38:22 AM should watch the ajax vs psv game now and then reassess your opinion feyenoord have just lost a lot of players and utrecht are a struggling bottom of the table team. and its round 2. add champions, europa league and the general quality that is in the top third of the eredivisie and they are well ahead of HAL. until our league is bigger, our caps are increased and ACL is taken seriously we will be behind most of europe. in saying that, i still think the HAL is getting pretty sold for what it is and probably worth more time than some players give it. probably the biggest reason that players take off is the paycheck and the dream of playing in europe. there just aren't enough marquee spots for players that start to perform without being outright allstars.

I know the english can be snobs but I have been perusing the Southampton forums for the last few weeks (as a supporter) to see their opinion of the Eredivisie. The general consensus amongst them is that it is absolutely gash. I wouldn't make an opinion without watching it myself but I thought it was interesting how poorly they rated it. Hopefully they are wrong since our club's biggest recruit and coach come from there.

No doubt I'll need to watch more games to get a full opinion of the Eredivisie. I was just using what I saw, what I know of players in and out of the league, etc to base my opinions I wrote last night.
For the guys who watch a lot of Eredivisie - how was last nights game in comparison to normal?

Utrecht seemed to play completely different styles from first to second half. In the first half, they played one of the most rigid 4-3-3 I have seen for a long time, and the left & right back were left high&dry, and were beaten countless times, because of it (but in saying that, when they broke on the counter and got the ball to Ayoub, great things happened and this was when Oar looked the best in the first half). I counted at least 4 times Feyenoord played the ball in behind the left/right back of Utrecht to have a 3-on-2. Feyenoord will be spewing they didn't score about 4 more goals in the first half. In the second half, Utrecht played way more narrow and Feyenoord seemed to basically just give up - it was quite a boring half. Edited by pv4: 25/8/2014 01:31:10 PM

I find it funny that after so much whinging about Oar being too one-dimensional and not strong enough that this forum has overlooked his physical presence and directness in contribution to the goals to shift towards a complaint that the Eredivisie is a low quality league. Regardless of the quality of defending, Oar demonstrated capabilities he has previously struggled with in this game.
I've watched enough Eredivisie over the years to say that, yes, sometimes the defending can be ordinary, but it is still far superior to the A-League, which has only really matured since the introduction of the Wanderers and their emphasis on organisation.

Who would take Luke Wilkshire to the Asian cup as a DM ?. His short ball passing is still quality you would think his defensive frailties would be over shadowed by the Padawans lack their of.
