His all-round game was actually fantastic this morning. Not sure on his passing accuracy % but looked far more confident in playing first-time balls to his teammates than he does for the Socceroos.

I feel like he has a lot more faith in his Palace teammates to be in the correct positions so he doesn't even need to look up when playing for them. With Australia he'll often take a controlling touch, look up, and then have to hit a pass, almost as if he's unsure where they'll be.

My boy Ikonomidis started in the Lazio U20's 3-1 win over Palermo last night, not directly involved in any of the goals apparently (for once), but he did play the 90 while the goalscorers got subbed off, for what it's worth.

They were waiting for a master class ;)

With Greece in such turmoil I'm worried now.

Not exactly Sainsbury's best game. Can't really tell if he was fouled before Twente's first goal.

I'm guessing it's an ACL after his leg snapped like a twig while he was on Young Socceroos duty.

His last relavent tweet was on the 19th:

Goal Arsenal after 60 seconds but it was a tad offside. Yes, BVB's defence is poor right now but Weidenfeller isn't doing much better.

Ikonomidis is being interviewed on some sort of Lazio radio show as we speak, and the official Lazio twitter is posting quotes in Italian.

Surely we have an Italian speaker on here who can make sense of these tweets for us?

here is the Ikonomidis interview google translated. Don't think there is any doubt about which national team he wants to play for.

When asked about his favorite role he specifically said "di trequartista" which some would say is more specific but are there any other words for playmaker in Italian?

Quote:
Class 1995 so far author of eight seasonal networks, one of the protagonists of the Spring of Mr. Inzaghi (his winning goal in the Super Cup): the nineteen year old Australian Christopher Oikonomidis gave a long interview on the frequencies of Lazio Style Radio , in which traces its Lazio experience, past, present and future.

You write Oikonomidis or Ikonomidis?
"In Italian with the O, while in Australia with the I".

The next opponent in the championship will be the Avellino ...
" We are ready, we are working well and are sure to bring home the three points. Initially there was some small problem, but now it's all right. We want to improve, we are a group of friends. Against Avellino will not be easy. Playing on a synthetic pitch, but if we start well behind and do our game, the goal and the victory will come. "

How important is a dressing room together?
" It is important to the group as soon as possible. At the beginning we had to know given the many new kids. Now we are all friends and this can be seen both on and off the field. "

How was the arrival at Lazio?
"I found myself very well, I have accepted all the great off the court."

What are your memories of the Italian Super Cup final against Chievo?
"It 'was an amazing evening, it's beautiful win for Lazio and for these people. When I saw the cross of Tounkara, I just said I had to score. Then Mattia, Silvagni and Warriors have saved us. "

Final Eight, there is some regret for the semifinals of last year lost with Torino?
" Do not think about it anymore. We think to win, we want the Italian Cup and the Scudetto. We believe in doing things right, now the goals and results will come. "

How's the '97?
" well. They are learning the great and good you are entering. They grew so much technically and are taking confidence. They must all be ready to play now. "

How's Inzaghi?
"There harass (laughs). In training he always makes a technical part, then the tactic and eventually the match. Inzaghi is very important to us. Keeps us all on the rope, we must all be ready to enter. We all want to do our best for the team. "

How's the foreigners arrived this year?
" They are going well. Prce has learned Italian in three weeks, I do not know how he did (laughs). It is not easy to come to play in Italy. "

For you, as was the impact with Italy?
"It's hard at first because I did not speak a word of Italian, now it's okay. I did not think it was a kick so tactical, but now I'm used to. "

Where you pulled the first kick of the ball?
" I started when I was three and Sidney I told my mother that I would do the footballer in Italy. I am realizing my dream. There are 23 hours of travel, I miss family and friends. Every morning I talk on Skype with my family. In Rome, however, I feel good, I have many friends. "

How is your growth?
"I'm happy, I'm learning so much with Inzaghi. Auronzo I learned so much from Pioli and my comrades of the first team, especially from Ledesma. "

Your favorite role?
" My favorite is to playmaker, but does not give me problems playing outside. "

How's the Australian National?
"For me it is important to be part of it. We want to grow as a country. It is an honor to wear that shirt. "

What are the differences between Australian and Italian football?
" In Italy there is more technical and tactical, while in Australia football is very physical. All weigh about 85 kg. Many players are in Europe to grow. We are improving as a national team. "

Italy-Australia in 2006?
" I remember her. The saddest day of my life. We played very well up to 90 'when he scored Totti. We had great players like Kewell and Viduka. "

Who inspires you?

" Candreva is an example to follow. He has run, quality, technique, in short, has everything . "

Brugge game finished 0-0. I think Ryan was MOTM. Unfortunately my stream changed channels before any post game analysis or full highlights (I only saw the last half hour). Commentators did mention him pretty soon after the whistle, I am guessing to say he kept them in the game (was in Italian). He did get a yellow for I am guessing time wasting but other than that was great. Made 4 or 5 good saves while I was watching. The best were probably from headers, one low and to his left and another headed into the ground but going to corner where he had to dive slightly backwards to get to it.

EDIT: Brugge nearly tonight qualified but should go through anyway. The other game in their group had a 89th minute equalizer but a 93rd minute winner, any other result and they would be through. Still they need to get a better result than a 0-3 loss at home verses a team from Finland to go through.

Also Originally saw this tweeted but Voice ofReason a couple of days a go but just stumbled on the report. Promising youngster Ajdin Hrustic is out for 4-5 weeks with an ankle injury in his first training with the first team at Groningen. [Note: he is likely to choose Bosnia over Australia I think]

Quote:
Ajdin Hrustic , the Schalke 04 come across asset that has appeared so far with FC Groningen A1 and as an attacking midfielder impressed, Monday suffered an ankle injury. Ajdin would train with as of this week with the first team and the promises, but it went wrong during the first training. In a duel with Mimoun Mahi he suffered a sprain of his ankle tires; He stands about four to six weeks on the side. However, it is inevitable that we will hear more of him!

RYAN EXTRAORDINARY, DENY THE GOAL AT THE BULL IN TWO OCCASIONS - The second half started with no replacement, but with Torino always looking for the advantage, although the team of Ventura has to deal with Ryan. That's right, because at 57 'in the space of a minute, the Australian goalkeeper of Bruges becomes the star with two extraordinary interventions. Before denying the joy in El Kaddouri, who let fly a shot from outside, then to Martinez, who had concluded from a good position for the door.

ASSAULT TORO, MA RYAN IS TOPS - The grenade are masters of the field, pushing hard on the accelerator in search of the goal, but the team of Ventura slams again sull'insuperabile Ryan ... After Jansson's head touches the pole, in the final Darmian is wide of the goal, but it is on the left of Molinaro on the fly, that the Australian goalkeeper saves once again the result. The Toro tries up to 94 'but can not unlock the match and will play the next round on the final day.
