moofa wrote:kinda knew Tounkara was going to be the youngster to get on the pitch. Even though he is younger and has slightly fewer goals than Oikonomidis this season he has made the bench for a serie A match and more importantly is 3 inches taller and has about 10kgs on Oikonomidis so looks more ready for senior football.
On Oikonomidis' position this season from what I have seen he has been playing mostly wide. Possibly with the striker as a false 9 so he and Tounkara are often the players leading counter attacks.
Edited by moofa: 15/1/2015 12:55:32 PM THIS, in a nutshell. We have and have seen, so many talented, technical, Aussie youngsters overseas then wonder why they never make it - while some others do. The physical development is always emphasised and is still even being emphasised with a Rogic and co (Granted, it's Scotland, but still). Boy needs to develop and strengthen, but I'm sure he knows that - It's a very high level and a strong club where he's at - It's in most definitions a Man's game, yeah last time we saw him on Young Socceroos duty he and some other young stars were far from - meanwhile others who were like Brillante, Irvine and some others have gone strength-to-strength at senior level. If we can have more of these types developing like how Luongo and co have (Who's starring in the physical rigours of League One), then they will have a great chance. At one point in Luongo's career he was criticised for not being physical/strong/work-rate enough at Ipswich, but seems he learned from that and we see how he exerts his influence with the Socceroos. That's what Musti Amini seems to be undertaking, right now at Dortmund - he's seriously transformed himself! From a mouse to a beast - That's what it takes! I heard that the irony is that on birth certificates it is really Vincent Grella and Marco Bresciano.

Edited by scott21: 16/1/2015 04:55:13 AM Woah! Bresc with hair ha. Funny Brillante is kind of the midfielder between the two not as defensive as Grella nor as attacking as Bresciano. Interesting to see how this pans out. was hoping for a lower table side but guess this will have to do for now.

Wright on bench. Kilkenny starting and Lowry starting for Orient. Is Lowry off the radar forever now? He'll probably be around the Wesolowski level.

Just watched a few Wesolowski videos. He seems like a good, likeable bloke. It's a massive shame what happened to him. Although league two now, I still think he'd serve the national team with more motivation than some others. We've got tonnes of midfielders however.

The Australian World Cup striker was supposed to have finally made his first-team debut this month after suffering six months of groin problems that also needed surgery.
But despite a run-out with the reserves in December, the 21-year-old has met with more bad fortune.
"It's not a setback as such, but strength wise Adam's left side has shown to be not as strong as his right. So it was worth taking him out of training to strengthen that up," manager Kit Symons explained.
"And hopefully, because he's missed so much football, when he's fully fit, we'll look for a loan opportunity to get him back playing games." Edited by adrtho: 17/1/2015 04:06:57 PM

Did Taggart's problems only start when he moved to England, or is this a carry over from the Jets?
Seems like there is a lot of long-term injuries among the boys playing in the British lower leagues: Williams, Good, Rogic, Taggart. There seems to be almost as many injured over there as those who come through successfully. Maybe something in the physio/ sports science setups?

By now, American Samoa must have realised that Australias 22-0 win over Tonga two days earlier was no fluke.

Well while the Socceroos were misfiring all night, Ikon played the full 90 for Lazio U20s, scored one goal, and created three assists!
Knew we shoulda called him up.
