I hope he can turn it around, but the truth is... He's just not great.

His first game for Huddersfield was amazing though I thought.

However, he really should be to the current socceroos what Kasey Wehrman/Corica/Frank Juric was to the golden gen.

Poor guy can't get a break . Plays really well at the WC and then club level football from there on for him has been average at best. I was really hoping the move to Huddersfield was going to work out and now it looks like it might've been a poor choice of club.

Should come to the A-League.

Davidson needs to remember how to football, seems he's forgot since the WC.

He sure looks a touch foolish now for leaving Heracles when he did. He could still be playing each week in the Eredivisie with a mid-lower table team, which I think suits his level and that is no disrespect to him as playing regularly int he Eredivisie is not an easy task to achieve.

I would agree though that I don't find him all that remarkable.

I've saw Andy play live a few times in 2012, and I was very impressed. Same build as Paartalu, but far more mobile and can score goals. Wins stacks, and stacks of headers and but also is very fit and handy in build up play. He's been playing in a fantastic Seattle team for a couple of seasons now, and i'm a touch surprised we haven't seen more of him on the Socceroos scene.

If he didn't play in the MLS im sure the national coaches would be paying more attention to him sadly.

Yeah, probably.

If I were Kevin Muscat in desperate search of an Australian CM to replace Millsy, I'd be giving Andy a buzz. Transfers from the MLS to the A-league are very, very difficult because of the way the seasons end and the contracts that MLS players have, as one Aussie keeper in the MLS a few years back found out time and time again, but perhaps they could get him on loan until his contract is over, or Seattle could negotiate his release with the MLS.

I wouldn't seeing him what's he's got, can he play as a defender too?

I've only ever seen him play in midfield. I'd probably say no, but I'm not sure.

There is also a question mark over his eligibility, apparently hasn't spent enough time in Australia although not sure?

Would have thought playing as a wing back would suit him perfectly. I guess if he can't do it against Notts he has no hope.

I dont know about that, he isnt eligible to become an Australian citizen. He hasn't lived here long enough, neither of his parents have an Australian background, he wasnt born between 1949-1986, and so on. (That is in the case you have to be an Aussie citizen to play for the Socceroos)

This. I remember an article from when he was still at WBA when he tried to suck up to the coach in the hope of getting some more game time and said stuff like "He's a great coach, his main focus is results" and I was thinking that if that's the case, then why would he give a stuff about you? What chance have you, an unproven defender from a smaller Eredivisie club who MIGHT have potential, got of starting over the more experienced guys who might not be great, but you know what to expect from them?

I hope he finds his feet in the Championship, but he probably should've stayed at Heracles in the first place.

For the first time, but certainly not the last, I began to believe that Arsenals moods and fortunes somehow reflected my own. - Hornby

I found this pretty interesting. Degenek's debut and 1st team spot in the 2.Bundesliga has made some people question how a player like this seemingly comes out of the blue with the FFA not following him but his start to the season seems to have been a surprise for everyone. It turns out he went to 1860 Munich trialing for their U21 team which is in the fourth division. Also it mentions he is naturally a number six (defensive mid) even though he played centre back the first few games of the season

Quote:
As a test player from VfB Stuttgart II he came into the winter break on the road and Grünwalder disgraced the lion with a 4: 0 win the third division. There he fell Sechzigs responsible for the first time, the rest is (ascending) History: Only allowed the 21-year-old center-back audition for the amateurs. Coach Daniel Bierofkas Conclusion: That's too good for us.

This turnaround of expectation on arrival to reality is also what annoys me about players like Oar, Gallifuoco, Troisi and Juric. While finding the right fit is important when they finally find a club they are going to be behind other players who have done a whole pre-season. This especially goes for Gallifuoco who hasn't had first team football

Here is an interview Bild did with Degenek before the last game. Quite a humble answer on the last question about his goals for the season

Quote:
Degenek: No fear of HatTrick Petersen!

BY THOMAS ERNST BERGER AND KRISTINA ELLWANGER
From zero to one hundred: Milos Degenek (21) came as a sample player from VfB Stuttgart II, convinced right away, standing at the opening round in Heidenheim equal in the starting XI.
In view of downtown defender talks exclusively about his eventful life.

BILD: You have in 1860 got off to a dream start ...
Degenek: "My first professional match - that was the best feeling in my life. I get goose bumps just talking about it. Only the result tarnishes the joy of course. "

BILD: You are born in Croatia, but have been living in Serbia, Australia and Stuttgart. As what you feel?
Degenek: "I am a mixing plant. At 18 months I fled with my family on a tractor for nine days only with bread and milk to Serbia. With nine years we went to Sydney. We had packed our lives in three cases, none of us spoke English. I had to fight my way through many times. "
IMAGE: This is now paying off ...
Degenek: "Every morning I get up and I am grateful. Let me live my dream. This can not be my cousin. She sits in a wheelchair since birth, can hardly speak. This I see many things in life with different eyes. "

BILD: What do you consider the most important thing in life?
Degenek: "Faith in God, the family and the football. My brother Djordje is now close to me. He plays in Ampfing and comes on Saturday in the stadium. "

BILD: Your Saturday opponents Freiburg with the 6: 3 against Nürnberg set a sign. Makes you the hat trick for Nils Petersen fear?
Degenek: "No. If you are afraid, you've already lost. I'll go through the fire, and make my heart on the grass. "
BILD: Why is it for you as easily einzufinden itself?
Degenek: "I speak the language, which is a huge advantage. I have in Stuttgart (there he moved 2012 from Australia / d. Red) learned in six months German. In addition, help me here all. "

IMAGE: My goal for the season?
Degenek: "I'm not a big transfer, but a boy who is grateful to be able to play football. My plan: shut up, develop myself, to give everything and as often as possible on the pitch. No matter where - the decision of the coach. If he wants, I go into the goal ... "

Just noticed McGowan's the Dundee Utd skipper.

By now, American Samoa must have realised that Australias 22-0 win over Tonga two days earlier was no fluke.

Glad others thought this. Did some nice things in build up play and going forward, but was absolutely dreadful in defense, which I would've thought was a pretty big part of a left backs role.

Daniel De Silva will be loaned out to Holland instead of Belgium.

Apparently it's Roda JC the same club Griffths and potentially Juric could play for.

It seems like Han Berger is having an influence here given his connections to the club.

Any news on Brad Smith at Liverpool?

He's no longer at the club, don't know where he'll end up.

He must of rejected Liverpool's contract extension. :-k

Haven't heard anything about him at all recently. Maybe he's injured again.

He's still listed on the Liverpool website under Academy/U 21s

Liverpool defender Brad Smith targeted by Ipswich

HITC Sport understands that Liverpool defender Brad Smith is a loan target for Ipswich Town.

HITC Sport understands from sources close to the potential deal that Ipswich Town are lining up a loan move for highly-rated Liverpool defender Brad Smith.

Ipswich are scouring the transfer market in search of a new left-back following Tyrone Mings’ departure to Premier League new boys Bournemouth.

Australia international Smith is thought to figure highly on Mick McCarthy's wanted list and he is hoping to strike a deal to take the 21-year-old on a short-term agreement.

Smith has come through the ranks at Liverpool and he broke into the first-team during the 2013-14 season, making his Premier League debut against Chelsea in December 2013.

Smith had a spell out on loan at Swindon Town last season, making 10 appearances before being recalled by Liverpool.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers could be open to the idea of loaning out Smith so that he gain some valuable first-team experience before coming back to Anfield to challenge for a spot in the starting XI.

Ipswich chief McCarthy has been busy in the transfer market this summer having signed Arsenal winger Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Bournemouth's Ryan Fraser on loan and bringing in Bournemouth striker Brett Pitman on a permanent deal.

And as Krusen said, he was offered a contract by Liverpool, circa June/July and it seems he's featured with their team during pre-season as recent as last month - so it's curious, but quite possible he's a free-agent. I too swear I read something on FFT or somewhere, recent times, about Smith being available and courted by clubs - Maybe it was FFT's own weekly Transfer Activity piece, which discusses all the Aussie TF news?! They often discuss rumours of returning (To the A-League) and departing Aussies Abroad there, including talk of James Troisi, James Holland, Ryan Edwards and others returning to the A-League or not.

Transfermarkt still has him with Liverpool U21s too. TBF IF he IS still with Liverpool U21s, then by all-means he should be actively seeking senior football elsewhere, as he's well beyond the U21s level by now! More loan moves, at the least!
