I think for the next little while we'll still see Milligan in the #6 role with Luongo and Rogic in front of them. This round of qualifiers and for much of the next we won't be playing nations anywhere near as good as Championship sides, so Luongo will still dominate, regardless if he's going to be a stop gap play for QPR in any midfield role, or starting as their deep lying playmaker / holding midfielder.

De Silva could get a call up for the next round of games against Kyrgyzstan and Bangladesh as it would be good to blood him in against weak opposition and there will be few opportunities in the next round of qualifiers.

So can anyone enlighten me upon Luongo being dropped? I was under the impression he was playing really well.

Agree ... way too many Socceroos on the bench (and/or not appearing at all). Griffiths must be pushing for a call-up soon if he keeps playing regular (and starting).

This may get around any compensation Liverpool want since it's out of England

On the subject of Luongo, maybe he's also got something of Bresciano about him insofar as he carries the ball very, very well. Probably has a bit more zip than Bresch did, but maybe I'm judging Bresch by latter years rather than a decade ago.

This is really handy in a CDM. Again, looking to some of the best examples in the world there's Iniesta and Xavi.

Obviously with Rogic in front of him, that's gold. Or it will be once they're more used to playing together.

If Luongo is played deeper in the Championship, you'd hope his defensive skills will improve somewhat.

And then, as I say, paired alongside more of a technician, that's a really solid CDM pairing which will work well with Rogic at CAM and the wings, and the defence. They'll be very fluid getting the ball out of defence and then bringing it up field and distributing.

luongo was played deep most of the time at swindon wasnt he? he was the few games i caught and im sure all the news i heard was of him playing in a deep role.

From the little games I saw and trolling through forums, I think he was a CM/box to box type who naturally likes to get forward and was given license to.

From the article (google translate), looks like a trial.

21 year old Brad Smith will train with Rosenborg the following week. Smith has been at Liverpool since he was 14 years, but is now no contract.

21-year-old had contract offer from Liverpool, but chose to say no.

- His career has stopped a little up in Liverpool and I do not want that to happen. Therefore I want to get out to play first-team football on a regular basis I decided that it was time to leave Liverpool and then Rosenborg came with a request I think it was very interesting, says Brad Smith told NRK.

A very good footballer
Kåre Ingebrigtsen says that audition came about via sports director Stig Inge Bjørnebye. Bjørnebye has played for Liverpool and still have good contact with the English club. RBK coach Ingebrigtsen is looking forward to seeing more of 21-year-old.

- He is a very good footballer and when the chance came, this was something we wanted, says Kåre Ingebrigtsen.

No, it is just a trial at the moment. Their season finishes in November and they are probably going out of the Europa league so he will not be playing competitively for a while (outside of Olyroos) even if he gets a contract.

Turning down a contract from Liverpool for a trial at Rosenborg. Bold move.

He needs first team experience, it worked well for Luongo and Amini is enjoying his first team football. A lot better than rotting in reserves and Scandinavian football produces some good products, they must do something right?

Well if Barnsley is still interested he could be loaned to them or somewhere else in England for no fee until January, play with the Olyroos then start pre-season with Rosenberg. Something similar happened with Zeki Fryers leaving Man U with Spurs interested but not wanting to pay compensation so he went to Standard Liege for few months before signing for Spurs. Smith might see playing for the Norwegian champions better than League 1 so could stay in Norway instead of a permanent move.

The Roda game was 10 times better than this crap

The QPR fans haven't been too happy with Loungo the last few weeks although some on their forum say the no10 role isn't for him and he's better playing deeper

Suits Australia perfectly. CAMs we're in decent stead with Rogic, DDS, potentially the Ikon (although he normally plays on the wing) and maybe even Armenakas eventually.

We need deep lying playmakers.
Edited by quickflick: 4/10/2015 10:57:47 PM

Agree
A role similar to what Culina had would do for Loungo nicely

Is DeSilva part of the Olyroo's ?
Hapefully Ange gets him in soon like with the Ikon

Luongo and Culina are too different. Culina was technically twice the player Luongo is, but Luongo is better in tight spaces. The amazing thing about Culina is that he never found himself in a tight space.

Decent comments.

Ideally, if we had a very, very technical and quick CDM with the ability to open play up just by position, to nail the long-ball/through-ball with the perfect weight and the ability to shut down play quickly. Basically somebody like Culina (but with Grella's defence), or Xabi Alonso as one of the best examples. Ideally,we'd want such a player and for him to be playing in Europe. We could pair him and Luongo together at CDM, with Rogic sitting in-front of them at CAM.

Given our options on the wing, our midfield would be class.

Edited by quickflick: 4/10/2015 11:34:48 PM

More a band aid solution but Griffiths is passing at 80% in the Eridivise which is solid. Luongo for me is half way between Grella and Bresciano which is what Culina was but with a better eye for goal (culina did play a fair bit of fullback at club level as well). He would fit a 3 man midfield well which is what we have atm with a more attacking player and a more defensive one playing along side him. Last season Swindon had him at DM or CM in a 5 man midfield with 3 at the back so he did very well imo to create and score as many as he did and its my bet this is one of the key reasons he was so sought after.

Andy Rose was unused sub in Seattle's 1-1 home draw with LA galaxy. A game that included such epic ex-EPL and Euro royalty including Frei, Pineda, Clint Dempsey, Obafemi Martins, Ivanschitz, Dean Ricketts, Leonardo, Steven Gerrard, Juninho, Roy Keane and Giovanni Dos Santos.

How's Tozser been going? Did some good things a few years ago at AEK.

He has been decent without being spectacular. Would much rather Luongo in that DLP role

I don't know much about the quality of football they play in Norway. This is where Scott21 has expertise, perhaps Draupnir too.

Shame the Rodaroos aren't looking for a left back who just happens to be an Australian but has gone through the Liverpool academy and played Premier League football against Chelsea. That would really be grand having Smith there.

Rosenborg are about the same as Celtic ...the bad thing is, it's a summer league , and it's a 16 team league, so there some really shit teams ....if they made it a 10 teaam league, it would be much better

Well holy shit, we almost agree on something. Celtic would be slightly better but Rosenborg would demolish pretty much every other team in Scotland bar Hearts and Aberdeen.

I was at the Hamilton Celtic game yesterday. The game game seemed to pass Rogic by without him being able to impose himself against a team that fights for every ball. I think he will need to play a full season before he starts to settle in to the pace of the game in Scotland.

Ikon not even on the bench anymore with 13 players , have you heard any news?

He's off with the national team.

so it's been coach's decision and not injury for the reason why Ikon has not been on Lazio bench the last two games ....it be interesting to see if he start for under 23 team

No I think what he meant was that he is away with the national team, so it's a physical impossibility that Ikon could sit on Lazio' bench

the under 23 games is this weekend, so it didn't affect the last two weeks

Fmd you're special.
