Postecoglou says he has a database of players to track but then listens to “a tip or if someone highlights that they’re going really well”.

“Even someone like Milos (Degenek), who is with the Olyroos, we’ve tracked for quite a while. There was a bit of confusion over his status and nationality but we had someone like Craig Moore in constant contact with him so as soon as his eligibility became clear, we brought him in. It’s not just Socceroos players that I’m tracking, it’s at all levels.”

Postecoglou adds: “I’m pretty obsessive with these things — I tend to be the one … to put my eyes over it just to make sure to make we’re not missing anything.”

So how much football does a national team boss actually watch?

“I probably average about five hours a day; I’ll probably watch two to three full games every day then highlights or edited pieces for another couple of hours. Whether that’s live in the middle of the night, depending on my schedule, or during the day.”

Australia’s current crop of Olyroos will find Postecoglou’s remarks important, too. Not only do they have a crunch tournament in January in their bid to make the Rio Olympics, but it could be their door to a crack at stepping up to the next level.

“There’s certainly a few players I’ll be looking at giving some opportunities to in March and June. The bulk of the opportunities will come from players who perform well in that competition.

It's a total Dead rubber for both Lazio and Saint-Etienne , if Ikonomidis doesn't play tomorrow, i dont see him playing at all

another thing, Ikonomidis is 20 and 7 months old now, he only senior football is 36 minutes he played for Australia..their not many successful football player who play so little senior football by the age 21 and go on to be world class players, not even top player for Australia

only saving grace is Ikonomidis is at a good team, but he also not at a great team, and he the only 20 year old at Lazio who played no minutes

Indeed and it's not like that's his first European club either as his transferring from Atalanta to Lazio a couple years ago is what got so many excited in the first place. The thing is though guys, it's easier said than done as he just signed a 5 year contract extension June of this year. He'll be 25 years old by time his contract expires.

His options may be like Carl Valeri and the like before him? Some kind of Co-ownership/loan outs for a full season or two, down to Serie B or so and finally build up that much sought after senior experience. Maybe Lazio will release him earlier than 2020, odds are they will this rate, so the more he can push for senior experience, the more he can push his case for opportunities elsewhere?

Watch that market value too, elevated due to that contract extension - it will start to wane the longer this stretch without senior football extends into the seasons.

Moreno hasn't travelled with the Liverpool squad so possibly some more time for Smith

I agree if nothing changes he needs to go to get games with too many young players above him but there is talk of the current manager Pioli getting fired and Ikon's youth coach could get promoted to the first team.

He should start, unless Klopp decides to put Clyne on the left side and start young Randall again on the right.
