Once again you're making the assumption that Gersbach's move was about trying to get more money right now - rather than a step toward making a lot more money later. Why stay in Sydney on the other side of the world, playing a 27 game season and having a 6 month off season, when you can play on the doorstep of the bigger leagues in Europe, playing 30 games in a season which crosses over with those major leagues? The short term step down in standard, and the relatively low salary, are more than compensated for by the exposure... It's arguable that having looked good at A-League level he should look even better in Norway, thus attracting even more interest.

Is the Tippeligaen a step down in standard, Benjamin?

I'm not so sure that's the case. I reckon the Allsvenskan is step up in standard. Our Scandi-based friends seem to reckon the Norwegian and Swedish leagues are around the same level, which would suggest the Tippeligaen is at least the same standard if not higher for Gersbach. Then when you factor in the transfers from the Tippeligaen to bigger leagues...

Personally, I think the A-League punches well above its weigh tactically. This is when relatively major improvements have occurred in the last decade. But can lack a bit to be desired technically (although let's see what it's like when the U16s are prominent)/

Based on what would you say the Allsvenskan is better than the A-League?

I had an ACL reco last year, I had nothing better to do with my 8 weeks off work than sit there watch football live streams and bet :lol:

So I watched a few Allsvenskan league games, the standard to me seemed quite similar to the A-League, however I have only watched a couple of games.

my assumption is, in the year 2016 where we use skype (old), apple watch and youtube (old) one wouldn't need to go to other side of the world and play football in a country that below the league you was playing at

but we know football people are a bit slow

Football people also don't rate any leagues outside of Europe and South America and over rate all the leagues inside of it.

One of my mates who I (used to) work with played in the Allsvenskan. Briefly, I gather. He's seriously good. He couldn't dispossess me, though

Its not necessarily easy (nor accurate) to compare the Scandinavian leagues due to some differences. For instance, the Norwegian Tippeliga is very direct and sometimes described as a league where the pace and tempo is higher than the skill level, while the Danish league is far more possession oriented. But I guess its fair to say the leagues are similar in quality.

What may be more interesting and relevant than the choice of league is the choice of club. Rosenborg plays plays a very energetic and intensive offensive football (or at least aims to), in which the backs are expected to contribute both when defending and attacking. This requires a great deal from the backs as it requires a great ability and capacity in running, at least some qualities one-against-one and passing, but players who succeed in this role in Rosenborg tent do catch interest from bigger leagues and teams. Rosenborg has exported quite a few backs over the years, and most of them to fairly big clubs like Celtic, Liverpool, and Fulham.

Bottom line is that I regard Rosenborg as a great showcase for young ambious players, maybe backs in perticular. Gersbach is young, but seems to be a great prospect. Luckily for him he also plays in the position Rosenborg (arguably) has least quality and the shortest route to the first team.

I thought I read somewhere that Burns has become a regular first team starter this season, is this correct? Great for him and the Socceroos if he is, still rate the J-League as the best league in Asia.

J League seems to have a lot of depth in local players coming through.

Would hope to see Gersbach on this list next season, with any luck Halloran and fingers crossed for another young gun that we've hardly ever heard of. Hyuga Tanner seems likely for this, love to know everyone else's picks.
