Fine Arthur, it was moved because it was litte more than a South Melbourne troll thread with little relevance to MH, if you're now saying it doesn't belong in the State League section...then I'm going to lock the thread.

upcoming announcement at season's end Melbourne Heart are in the A-League and therefore being about Heart it should be in the Australia Section. If you want to leave this in the State League section (based on what kind forum rules I struggle to find), one of the hottest topics in this forum for a long time then fine. I think it only reflects on Heart with the Implication being they belong in the State League.

For right now they don't even exist except on the State League section.
Maybe this is their future?
Not much going on in your life i gather arth? Good to see you've come back from the dead Kap. Obviously not much going on in your life either.

Melbourne Heart throw 18-year-old Ross Archibald a lifeline by: Marco Monteverde From: The Courier-Mail March 05, 2013 12:00AM
HAVING been frozen out at Brisbane Roar, star youth team player Ross Archibald has been thrown a lifeline by Melbourne Heart. The versatile 18-year-old, equally at home in a holding midfield role or in the centre of defence, tomorrow starts a trial with the Heart, who have shown an interest in offering him an A-League contract next season. Archibald was one of the Roar youth team's premier performers this season and is a shot at winning the side's best player award. But his form has not been enough to convince Brisbane coach Mike Mulvey to offer him an A-League deal. Despite having trained with the Roar's first-team squad for the best part of six months, including the entire pre-season while Rado Vidosic was in charge, Archibald was quickly banished after Mulvey replaced Vidosic in December. "When Rado left as head coach, I had two sessions with Mike as first-team coach and that was it,'' said Archibald, who then had to be content with only youth team training. "I just got told to keep working hard, and that my chance might come to get back there but it never happened. Of course it's disappointing. "I'm a Brisbane boy and I did love playing for the Roar.'' Both Mulvey, who first spotted Archibald's talent during his time as Queensland Academy of Sport coach, and the Roar's youth team coach John Sime did not return calls from The Courier-Mail yesterday. But is is understood that Sime is extremely disappointed that Archibald has not been offered an A-League deal by Brisbane. Mulvey also prevented Anthony Proia from training with the first-team despite the teenage striker having an A-League contract with the club. It led to Proia - who had been contracted to the Roar until the end of next season - leaving the club last month to return to Sydney, where he has joined former National Soccer League team Marconi. Seriously aren't there any local kids that Heart could sign up? No wonder there is such a large disconnect with the Melbourne Football Community.

Michael Owen would be another - a big risk though - they need someone who will play every week.
Does Kewell count? No chance for Totti either. He's currently on more than $5 million euro NET until 2014. He then has a contract as a technical/sports director role (not yet disclosed) until 2019. Even if he dropped his terms an A-league club would be expected to pay at least 2-3 million net a season, effectively meaning 4-6 million per season. NOT going happaen. Ronaldinho is the same although may even be harder to reach as he's probably going to be selected for Brazil 2014 based on recent performances with Atletico Mineiro. Maybe in a 2 or 3 years time perhaps. My guess is that he will head to the MLS I reckon.

chris wrote:I say No
Yesterday's crowd was an anomaly on the back of ADP Next home game will surely see attendance for the Heart decline to its usual region of 5-7k
speaking of region - I believe the Heart should be regionalised
The 2 option are Gippsland and Geelong
Personally I think the Heart should relocate to Geelong - yet still play their bigger attended games at AAMI
The opportunity for Heart is to finally carve itself an identity and capitalise on the following opportunities
- take advantage of the upgrade at Skilled Stadium including lighting which will be at a TV standard - feasibility at skilled stadium will be a lot more favorable than the new terms that will take place at AAMI as of next season - represent a region whose soccer/football community is as strong as any regional zone in Australia - yet lacks representation - assist the FFA in expanding the code in regional Australia - Geelong will never produce a new off the shelf team - yet the relocation of Heart which has palpitated in Melbourne.... - Play the big games at AAMI - maintain links with Melbourne - particularly the West and Werribee (as does Geelong Cats) - Gain a true identity and links with a community that has no footballing representation yet is a major football culture
Just some Major points that I believe issue a strong economic and cultural reasoning to get this team to stick on the wall rather than drop off altogether
BTW - this is not about south Melbourne - but rather how the Heart should develop and grow
I genuinely believe in Melbourne - they have peaked - next home attendance will qualify my point of view Now it's just sad.

Was thinking the same, it must be a given now that for Heart to be a major player and gain traction in Melbourne they need a "Genuine" Marquee.
Who?
Ronaldihno?
Totti?
Giggs?

Will Del Piero's appearance be an indicator of what a "Marquee" player could do for Heart?
10,000 maybe not
12,000 could be
13,000 - possibly chase a marquee?
15,000 sign someone now Interesting turn-out today. ADP's second appearance in Melbourne - so not a complete novelty. Lots of wins at home don't appear to have brought fans in, neither has a finals place, so it appears to be almost entirely down to ADP. Just wonder if those running Heart have the balls to go after a big name. If they can add 5,000 to the average crowds at an average of $20/ticket - that's $1.3m. Wonder who they can get for that?
