Also reading back, at no point did Matt actually say that dead people don't deserve sympathy, merely stated that he feels that dead people exactly that; dead and that it wouldn't matter.

The only person you benefit by feeling sympathy for the person that died is yourself. Also a lot of words and statements made after Notor's statement aren't interchangeable with sympathy.

This whole debate started because Benjamin said people who die from things like drugs he doesn't think deserve sympathy, which notorganic said he applied to all deaths and not just selfish, self-inlficted or whatever.

It's easy to comprehend. And it's a good thing to invest that time in the people left behind. There's no doubting that for one second, and no one has.

The storm has started because Notor feels that not an ounce of emotion/sympathy/etc should be for the person that died themselves.

Also in regards to the selfish thing - any emotion you have because of someone else is selfish. My point was this: if someone in your life died, is it more selfish to feel sympathy for them because they won't have the opportunity to live life anymore, or is it more selfish to feel sympathy for yourself because you'll miss them? And note: I'm saying both feelings are fine, and normal. I just don't like the idea of Notor labelling one more selfish than the other, when IMO it isn't.

I think Notor expressed himself pretty badly, I doubt he feels no sympathy for the dying.

The real question is whether of not we should feel sympathy for a drug addict (junkie if you will). I say we should, irrespective of the choices he/she made.
