You've put a lot of effort into that but sorry, the idea is utterly terrible.

Haha - yeah maybe.

I have posted the  following on a separate topic in the general section - any comments much appreciated at that topic

A League to be played in the EPL off season idea

I am sure this idea has been discussed before - but I am a very part time football fan who finds the current season odd being in the middle of summer and thinks there should be more of the worlds up and coming players in the league.

I think it should start this coming off season in this format

1) Opening weekend May 19th (EPL finishes on May 12th)
2) Final would be on August 5th (EPL starts 10th August)
3) Assuming 10 teams as present - that is 18 games
4) The season is 12 weekends - the last two being semis and final
5) So 10 round robin weekends and 8 midweek games for each team

Advantages
1) Attract players from the pool of thousands of professional players available from the English and European leagues - instead of the zero now
2) Be the main football league for TV viewers in the EPL and European off season - and featuring familiar talent from those leagues.
3) Make the Aus/NZ clubs a sale-able proposition to EPL and Euro Clubs (more of the Melbourne City deals)
4) Vastly increase sponsorship opportunities from international brands
5) Short season keeps interest up for fringe fans like myself
6) Played in winter so school kids are playing football at the same time - so more interested
7) Scouts will not be looking at UK/Euro games at that time
8) Grounds are softer - less injuries and conditions match northern winter conditions for the players from there
9) Clubs could run second eleven games before or after the main game to build local talent - they would have a decent crowd
10) Final the weekend before the EPL opens - media are looking to cover football events
11) Final would be same weekend as Super Rugby final and can be timed to be immediately before or after that.

I am sure die hard football fans would not support the short season - but I think it could build the game in Australia and NZ?
Any comments?
Graeme

Looks real  good but City still wear red and white stripes.

Then you have the MV horses, but that isnt as bad as the matching colours.

Try the exact same but with honey or mustard in the white area, but keep the white in the middle circle ;)

Most people on here would have seen by now I enjoy mucking around in photoshop. After reading the topic about Melbourne inevitable third team and it was mentioned that the area for the SE Melbourne bid lacks an identity it got me curious.

In terms of the area for SE Melbourne I don't know the area at all but scrolling through the internet, reading up on the areas in question - City of Greater Dandenong and City of Casey - a few things I have learnt is the area is historically known for farming and industry(timber-milling) etc.

When you start to think of what you can base a football clubs identity around, I feel it always serves to look at the history of the region. Another I like to do is look at an area/cities coat of arms. They tend to be pretty good at depicting certain aspects that define an area historically. Upon all this I learnt that Greater Dandenong is derived from the merger of Springvale and Dandenong Councils and City of Casey deriving from the merger of Cranbourne and Berwick Councils. Below are the coat of arms/emblems of the four pre-merged councils.

Dandenong and Springvale

Berwick and Cranbourne

So from that I took the horses holding the shield from the Dandenong and Berwick coat of arms.
The Bulls head which features on all four Coat of Arms in some form.
The cogs from the Dandenong coat of arms to represent the industrial side of the area.
The red gum tree which apparently are predominant throughout that area and were the main tree sourced for the timber mills. The circle the tree sits in is a copy of the Cranbourne emblem.
The colour red is the dominant colour in the Dandenong/Springvale coat of arms and the blue is dominant in the Berwick and Cranbourne. Also with the red/white stripes I thought it would be amusing to stir up some nostalgia in some of the disgruntled/ex Heart fans. I envisage an Atletico Madrid style kit.

I hope you enjoy what I came up with. Would love to hear from people from that area what they think. Again I don't know the area and only spent the last few hours trawling through google and wiki.  Something like this is hard to do especially for an area that appears to be a blank canvas. I'm a huge believer in letting a nickname/identity for the club develop naturally. It adds to the fun in 20-50-100 years, if a club survives that long, reading the history behind the colours and crest.

100% exactly what the League needs.
There should be promotion for the next 3 to 4 seasons.

Wollongong v south Melbourne should be opening the 2018/19 season.

That doesn't correlate with FFA's massive yearly announcement plans to postpone expansion .

The potential Chinese club owners are paying for it.

Will 100% depend whether they've managed to 'persuade' all those NSW MPs they've been greasing for some other big project

Southern Expansion's possible stadium location is part way between Sutherland and Loftus Stations.

Watching the FFA Cup this season, more than ever we need some of the pre-existing NPL clubs to be playing some sort of HAL.

From performances on the pitch  alone, these teams have claims - APIA, Bentleigh (the stand out NPL team for mine), SU58, Heidelberg and Blacktown. They have all done enough for a mooted HAL2.

If a best eleven from the whole of state NPL team was selected from the WA, SA, Queensland, ACT and Tasmanian NPLs, there would also be close to sufficient talent for a HAL2 team as well from those states.

This is enough for a 10 team HAL2 league.

Then again, I think 10 teams in a league is too few. The  current 10 team HAL needs to have at least 14 teams to make it more interesting and prevent teams from playing each other too often in a season.

South Melb may have claims off the pitch for inclusion. To date they've never played well enough on the pitch IMO to warrant inclusion when I've seen them play. Conversely, Bentleigh Greens have delivered in every game over the last three years.

SM have finished above Bentleigh though.

The one thing RL doesn't suffer from is fucked up administrators in the head office and the States. That's before you get to the clubs. If we sort that out, anything is possible

This thread has gone quiet,so I thought I would bring it back to life.
An interesting thing is happening in British Rugby League at the moment, which surprised me.I always thought Rugby League was doomed to be a sport restricted to its origins in Britain,Australia and NewZealand.More or less an AFL locked in three countries instead of one..
But through a disicplined promotion and relegation regime and an open door expansion philiosophy, things are gradually changing.
A team from France has been in the Super League for a while. But its not locked in and can be relegated.
There is a team fromToulouse(France) in the second division(Championship).
Of most interest ,recently a team from Toronto Canada has joined Britains Rugby League and was forced to start at the bottom in division three.
How does that work.Well quote well.Teams actaully fly to and from Toronto to play, eventhough in the third divison most are semi professional.Yes like our NPL teams.
Toronto(Wolfpack) is carving up all teams, as it is loaded with professional players .So next year will certainly be promoted.
There is now talk of a team from USA coming in .

How does a Rugby League competiton on the other side of the world effect us?
Well look at the hurdles that have been overcome.
There's aspiring new teams from big cities and far away starting at the bottom (division 3)and not losing fans.
There's blowout scores.
There's semi professional teams playing.
There's teams from big cities like London in the second division.
There's overseas travel costs in lower divisions.(France and Canada)
No protecting of teams and no locking teams out.Come one come all.Just start at the bottom rung.

It just shows to me that if you set up promotion and relegation with strong governance and everyone knows the rules, there is no arguement over other issues such as expansion.
If you did the same here with Football, who cares who wants to join.Just start them at the bottom and let them fight their way to the top.
Three divisions would probably do it.
If they aren't willing to do that then goodbye.
Professional teams playing semi professional teams to get to the top is not so weird.
Professional teams falling through the divisions is not weird.
All the neysayers who worry about obstacles ,should take a look at what can be done of you have a go.

A-League Expansion and Creation of Second Tier Soccer in Australia.

The primary aim is to increase Soccer participation at a grassroots level and reach within the Australian sporting market

Year 1.  Create a new B-league of ten teams

Run that for two years. No promotionor relegation.  Top four teams in theB-League at the end of the year go into the “finals” to give all teamssomething to play for in the first 2 years.

Year 2.  Continuing same as year 1.  Allowing teams and players to adjust.

Year 3. First promotion from theB-League

This year the playoff winner getspromotion to the a-league.
This year there no relegation fromthe a-league. Expanding it to 11 teams.
2 new teams then get a licence intothe B league, bringing the total to 11 teams.

Year 4.

In year four the same again.Expanding the A-league to 12 teams.
2 new teams then get a licence intothe B league, bringing the total to 12 teams.

Year 5.

The champions of the b-league getautomatic promotion. The 2nd to 5th placed teams enter a play-off for promotionto the a-league.
The bottom team in the a-league getautomatic relegation. Teams 10-11 play off for survival in the A-league.

Run this for fiveyears.

Year 11. The C-league.

FFA Cup to continue.
League Cup to be created for A and BLeague teams only.
