heya
just wondering if theres a problem with the forum once i log in into the forum to do some posts, after a while of no activity it will log me off and show me that im a spectator. this is even if i select the 'remember me' check box.
this happens to me at work and at home so its 2 different pcs. the only common thing is that i use firefox at work and at home.
just wondering if there are any known issues with firefox and the log in process..
anybody else experiencing the same issue?
:-k :-k :-k

Yes, experience it all the time. They know about the issue though I think.

I get logged out when im do lengthy posts and then i press submit and i lose all the stuff ive written because im not logged in.
Also. Just then logging in. I had the remember me thing ticked but i still had too. I couldnt log in. I typed my correct username and password but it just kept saying it was wrong. Didnt know what to do. I unclicked the remember me thing and it worked again.

That's very weird mk, because ticking the checkbox should have absolutely no effect whatsoever.
If you do get logged out during post submission, you should be able to log in, then press back a few times to resubmit your post and it should all be there and submit correctly.
In regards to the problem itself.... we know what's caused the problem, but we don't know what's causing the problem. Confused much? haha
So yes, we are aware of the problem.

It seems taht you get logged out if you're inactive for around half an hour (ie on the one page and don't click anything).
mr web guy, sir - with regard to the being able to log back in, that doesnt' work so smoothly and I always lose what I'm working on because it takes me to the main page on the site. Is there a way we can stop that from happening?? It gets really annoying if I want to just quickly log into the forums and be off again and it takes me back to the main page and i've got to go back to the fourms and find the thread I was reading.

Ok, as you all can see, the logging in is a bit buggy at the moment and unfortunately we don't have the time to work it all out right now.
afro, the reason it takes you back to the main page is because it does that by default if it can't detect where you came from. I just logged out from this page. Then clicked log in from this page. I then logged in, and it brought me back here.
Even if you get taken back to the main page, you should be able to keep pressing back and it'll take you to where you originally started from.

Ah huh...so if I jump straight to 'au.fourfourtwo.com/forums' it doesn't know where I came from and will have a hissy fit? rightio.
btw...do you think you could build a site that bloody works consistantly?? I had to refresh the page fucking 23 times before it loaded correctly with the damn layering hinkyness.

I just did an update to the site bout 20 or so minutes ago. That could've caused the weird rendering issues.
(although why it does those rendering issues normally..... good question, and it doesn't usually take 23 reloads. Did you actually count 23?)
If it was up to a few of us, we'd be redoing the site from scratch (and that should fix the rendering issues). But alas, not atm.

Yeah, I actually counted 23 of them. It was driving me fucking mental.
It seems to have settled down a little now so it could just have been your updating. There seem to be more rendering issues coming up now that I'm using firefox aswell for some reason...but bizarrely, the pages load faster so I'm not complaining too much about that.

Happened to me a month ago Fredsta. My name would appear as if I were logged in when I was at the home page, but then going into the forum I would appear as a spectator.
It's all good now, for me anyway.

I did however get cut off mid-rant again.

I have a few issues with firefox: The front news ticker big banner won't load. It has a circle loading thing around and around and around. http://au.fourfourtwo.com/news/82755,kewell-scores-on-turkish-debut.aspxThe "click here to view video" won't show up with FF.

The weird thing is that these issues seem to come and go.

Unfortunately the forums that overclockers runs on, runs on a totally different environment to what 442 uses, making it extremely difficult to integrate (especially the whole forum-article tie-in thing). If that circle thing keeps going, it either means no story has been loaded in there (unlikely), or something has broken during the page load (very rarely/seldom happens to me). And I don't see how that link won't work, it's a straight regular link, nothing fancy whatsoever.

I also have the same problem, just like everyone else. However, very often, I'm now finding that hitting F5 a couple of times somehow logs me back in again without me having to go through the whole login palaver. I;m on Firefox, btw.

I reckon that circle thing isn't to do so much with the server as it does with Firefox imo. When I was on Firefox 2, the same circle thing would happen on youtube (ie. videos wouldn't load/play) at the same period of time that it would happen with this website. But haven't had any circle issues with FF3. :) Edited by martyB: 19/8/2008 11:16:22 AM

FWIW, I'm still getting booted out of my forum login in Firefox, but so far Google's new browser Chrome has kept me logged in solidly. http://www.google.com/chrome/Edited by Kevin Airs: 3/9/2008 04:20:52 PM

I was hesitant at first, but it's a pretty sweet browser. Better than FF imo. Also, the pages here at FFT load a lot quicker and crisper than in FF.
