Coach Kasey Wehrman was far from devastated about losing to home side Northern Fury given he had to reshuffle his backline. However, he said the trip highlighted the desire and hunger needed to win. It was Pride's second consecutive loss after a draw and win. "It was a bit like the Sunshine Coast game,'' Wehrman said referring to his team's 4-0 pre-Easter loss. Defender Joel Hancock was ruled unfit, giving Alex Bryan his first start at left back. "The conditions (in Townsville) were beautiful compared to what we thought it would be,'' Wehrman said. "I'm trying to teach them all the tactical side of things and how we can break down other teams but you've also got to have that intensity and willingness to run and work hard together as a team.'' newcastle boy Like a beast one to keep an eye on. -PB have played against him for many years, starting in newcastle state league juniors through to state league first grade. he's never really impressed me tbh. everytime i've played him i've marked him out of the game, and although he scored a bunch of goals in newcastle state league they always seemed to be penalties - and i could never understand the hype (apart from being athletic, i thought he was one of the easiest strikers to mark in state league first grade tbh). he's related to robbie middleby somehow, hence how he got the jets youth gig (plus that was after playing for the fury, which tbh was a surprise he got that gig until finding out it was middleby who set it all up), and he was extremely underwhelming in the jets youth campaign until they tried to get him out of newcastle by setting up some asian trials. but it's good to hear he's playing well up there. hopefully he comes good & makes a career in the hal. btw - sorry to talk myself up for a bit  Edited by pv4: 9/4/2013 10:09:05 AM

Shame that Fury's ground isn't one to write home about, still a brilliant crowd and hopefully those awesome jerseys are flying out the door! Fury are now officially my second team.
@ El Toro, dw mate my team Spirit haven't won a game and are bottom and it will be a long season for us, there's plenty in the same boat hahaha :( Add that to SFC coming 7th having spent twice as much as anyone else in the league, and Arsenal only just now looking threatening to finish in the top 4, I've had an absolute shocker for all of my teams this year :(

Fury ready to unleash against cellar-dwellersQuote:BALL CONTROL: Jacob Crowley leaves an opponent in his wake | Photo: SCOTT RADFORD-CHISHOLM THE high-flying Northern Fury are not about to stop their winning ways against cellar-dwellers QAS. Still fresh after scoring a 3-0 victory against Western Pride last week, Fury midfielder Jacob Crowley says the young QAS outfit will have to deal with a confident Fury team determined to score its second straight National Premier League win at home. The Fury will enter Sunday's game at the Townsville Sports Reserve with two wins from four games, and will also welcome back midfielder Corey Waples from a two-match suspension. Two-goal hero Jake Navarro is in doubt to play after inflaming a niggling ankle injury last week, but is expected back next round. "The QAS boys are all fast, technical players but we'll be right," Crowley said. "They're probably not as strong as the last teams we've played, but they're still going to be a hard team to play and those young fellas are in the QAS for a reason." Crowley has played all four of the Fury's games this year and has not missed a single minute of play. He joins defender Caleb Hobson as one of just two Fury starters from last year's North Queensland Razorbacks squad, and hit form last week after providing strikers Navarro and Alex Read with a handful of well-timed passes. "There's spots up for grabs each week and players are training hard to keep their spots," Crowley said. QAS has lost three games and posted a draw, and have conceded 11 goals while scoring just two. But Fury coach Gareth Edds said complacency would be punished by the talented QAS squad, which had a narrow 1-0 loss to Sunshine Coast last week. "We've got to keep the ball better in certain situations and move it quickly throughout the whole game," he said. Edds said Navarro's long-term fitness would take precedence over any short-term gain to the Fury's for-and-against ledger. "He got a knock a couple of weeks ago against Central Queensland, but he got another knock on Saturday and he's a bit tender around that (ankle) area," he said. "We've got some big games coming up in the near future and we don't want him out for three to four weeks." Kick-off for Sunday's Fury v QAS clash is 3pm at the Townsville Sports Reserve. http://www.townsvillebulletin.com.au/article/2013/04/12/379189_sport.html-PB Edited by paulbagzFC: 12/4/2013 06:57:18 PM

Northern Fury have defeated Queensland Academy of Sport 6-1 in a great game. QAS are not the same team as they were under David abela but the fury played well, once again #14 Michael Eisenhutt was all over them.
PS i think it is time the F troop made up a song for mick.

WESTERN Pride striker Russell "Rusty" Woodruffe had an extra reason to enjoy his first goal in the National Premier League. It was against a former club Redlands United. "I'm absolutely thrilled with my goal," he said. "It was a nice moment to score." Although Western Pride lost 4-1, Woodruffe found plenty of positives after scoring from a terrific Peter Drager cross in the first half at the North Ipswich Reserve. "It's been a few games coming," Woodruffe said of his reward in the fifth match of the NPL season. "But we are working in the right direction. "Training has been fantastic. "The boys are learning quickly. "It's a competitive league. "I think there's going to more from us throughout the year." With a bald head and speed to burn, Woodruffe posed plenty of problems for the Redlands defence before coming off in the second half of Saturday night's game. At 27, Woodruffe is one of the oldest players in the talent-rich Pride side. However, the former Easts and Redlands midfielder/striker is one of the most experienced having played in previous State League and Premier League competitions. "It's a great opportunity for the boys and all of them are taking it with both hands," he said. "We're playing teams that are very experienced. There's some great players. "The first half I thought was our best football we played all year. We were the better side and it's about taking that through for the full 90 minutes. And that's another learning experience for the boys." Pride player/coach Kasey Wehrman agreed after he watched the entire game from the sideline. "I was impressed with the boys," Wehrman said. "In the first half, we were the better team and deserved to go in (to the break) with a lead. But a little lapse of concentration there, I'm a little disappointed with that. "In the second half, we were still comfortable and things were going all right." That was until second-placed Redlands scored a goal from nothing and continued to capitalise on some good fortune. Wehrman said patience was needed as his team deals with testing situations, especially with a new backline again on Saturday night. Pride also lost consistent midfielder Lincoln Rule before the game with a hamstring niggle and speedster Jay Kitching needed a head bandage after copping a knock. Kitching played on in his usual robust style on the ball. Wehrman also praised Jeye Comerford for lifting his workrate. Pride constructed plenty of scoring chances, firing a number of shots wide or well over the bar. That's something the young side has to work on as it stabilises its backline and builds communication. "We're not a team that's been together long enough to dig ourselves out of big holes," Wehrman said. "It is patience. Keeping it nice and tight and we did that for a good majority of the game." State of Play National Premier League: Redlands United 4 (Jheison Macuace 2, Graham Fyfe, Ramone Close) d Western Pride 1 (Russell Woodruffe). http://www.qt.com.au/news/striker-finds-optimism-in-loss/1829235/

Fury hit QAS for sixQuote:VALUABLE DOUBLE: Gareth Edds scores his second goal for Fury | Photo: EVAN MORGAN NORTHERN Fury striker Alex Read scored a hat-trick and player-coach Gareth Edds pointed to the heavens after the Fury's 6-1 mauling of QAS yesterday. Read scored the Fury's first two goals inside the first 15 minutes of Saturday's National Premier League game and netted his third just before halftime, while one of Edds' two goals featured a classy lob that sneaked just under the QAS crossbar. The former A-league player celebrated each of his strikes with a trademark dance before an enthusiastic Townsville Sports Reserve crowd, and dedicated the goals to his late grandfather. "I was a little bit emotional with the jigs because my grandfather passed away recently, so those two goals were for him," Edds said. "It's good to get the jig out and get a couple of goals on the board, so hopefully the crowd enjoyed it. "It was a great team effort, the boys are developing and there's more to come. "They're young, they're hungry and every single one of them is out to prove a point." The Fury caught QAS napping early and duly capitalised on some sloppy defence, with Read and in-form midfielder Michael Eisenhut scoring their team's first-half goals. QAS finished the break with a goal to Sam Cronin, but it was little comfort as the Fury entered halftime ahead 4-1. The visitors retained their composure in the following 45 minutes and controlled possession with a short-passing game that was let down by inaccurate long balls, and Edds butchered a one-on-one goal opportunity with 15 minutes to go before full-time. But the Fury mentor found redemption with his 75th-minute lob shot, and followed that goal by striking home a superb flick-pass by Eisenhut inside the QAS penalty area. "I just took my chances when they popped up," said Read, who took his score tally to four goals after yesterday's hat-trick. "You have to take (your chances) because we could've got a 6-0 result last week. "We put them (QAS) to bed pretty early, and our confidence is through the roof. "We'll be looking forward to next week and going in at a million miles an hour." Yesterday's win was the Fury's second straight victory of 2013 after last weekend's 3-0 defeat of Western Pride, and keeps their winning home record intact. QAS coach Josh McCloughan - who fielded former Townsville player Sam Herlihy in his team - cut a dejected figure after the six-goal pummeling "It was horrible," he said. "It's the little things that we're doing wrong week-in, week-out that we're getting punished for, and so far we're not learning." Northern Fury 6 (Read 3, Edds 2, Eisenhut) QAS 1 (Cronin). http://www.townsvillebulletin.com.au/article/2013/04/15/379372_sport.htmlCrowd was reported as just under 2000 (1990 or so). -PB
