It was an exciting game in front of a decent crowd. What was with the pitch though?

Not NPL but...

Frank Farina Joins Caloundra FC
20.01.2015

Sunshine Coast side Caloundra FC have announced a major coup for Queensland's grassroots with the appointment of former Socceroo Frank Farina as a Football Ambassador.

The 67-times capped international will lend his wealth of experience to the community club by providing technical assistance to junior and senior teams.

Club President Nic Basile believes his signing will prove highly benificial to the entire region.

"Frank will assist both junior and senior teams and help promote our club and the game to the whole Sunshine Coast community," he said.

"He will conduct coaching clinics for junior players from across the Sunshine Coast and Gympie.

"We expect this to boost player registrations not only at our club but across the Sunshine Coast."

Basile spoke of his pride at attracting the former Club Brugge and Lille striker to Caloundra, who last year went within one match of the Westfield FFA Cup Round of 32.

"We wanted to take our club and the game to a whole new level," Basile said.

"We approached Frank about being part of our club and he has agreed to come on board. Nothing like this has ever happened in our game here on the Sunshine Coast."

Farina has strong ties to Queensland football after growing up in Cairns and having led Brisbane Strikers to a first national title in 1997 as player/coach.

He returned to the Sunshine State in 2006 following a seven-year stint as Socceroos boss to take charge of the then-Queensland Roar in the Hyundai A-League.

Farina will lend his expertise to Caloundra in conjunction with his current role as technical advisor to the Fiji U-20 National Team.

"We are the proudest football club in Australia,” Basile added.

Have the GC released any infromation about a second npl side yet? Or is it just people collecting free lunches?

Quote:
Former Brisbane Roar CEO Eugenie Buckley has been brought on board to put together a strategy for a premier league team, as well as look at the sport here.

Ms Buckley, who was also Football Federation Australia legal and business affairs general manager and ICC Women’s World Cup Australia CEO and tournament director, has to deliver a report to the city council at the end of June.

Details of the consultancy deal were not revealed.

Mayor Tom Tate yesterday said he would like to see another National Premier League team on the Gold Coast by next year as the city worked towards having an A-League team back in the competition three years after that.

“I was up in Brisbane watching the Brisbane Roar win (the A-League grand final) last weekend and all I could think was how great it would be to be watching a final with a Gold Coast team in it,” he said.

The Palm Beach Sharks already play in the NPL and Football Gold Coast is meeting this weekend to discuss introducing a second team next year.

Ben Mannion the operations officer for Football Queensland and well known Palm Beach fan boy has resigned. Ben was responsible for the rolling out of the NPL in Queensland where his old club Palm Beach was given the NPL license despite the objections of every other club on the Gold Coast.

Look out Newcastle

You've got to think it's just about in the bag for Moreton Bay.

Final rounds:

SWQ Thunder vs Moreton Bay Jets
Brisbane Strikers vs Northern Fury

The top two should both get wins, but I can't see Strikers outscoring Jets.

It's been great to see it so close right to the end.

The games I've been to (mostly Olympic, Strikers and Roar youth) would all get a few hundred people. Some games more than others. The opening round of the season often gets more as well (1-2k).

Shitty decision, but I can understand it to a degree.

This round was already a catchup round from earlier in the season.

And dates for finals (including the National NPL Championships) have already been locked in. Given one of the games required Northern Fury travelling to Brisbane (again) it's a tough ask.
