gagging the media and ordering away media choppers is common practice though in a siege situation like this, as all it takes is Dorner having a tv and internet feed to keep him updated on the movements of the police.

However it is suspicious that not one article thus far has been able to confirm how the fire started, with a few mentioning that no explanation has been given, there are also reports that SWAT did enter the cabin at some stage leading up to the fire.

Apparently the cabin he was holed up in and surrounded by police has burned down, although a body has yet to be found apparently.

It was a quality movie, but it had a sense of "seen it before" about it.

I could get how people could support him in theory but the fact he murdered family of an officer he felt was in the wrong isn't the mark of a crusader fighting against the system, it's the mark of an incredibly depraved individual out for revenge under the guise of a higher cause.

He accepted death as an inevitability of his actions and embraced it, fact is he could have just as easily written a suicide note that exposed his beliefs of the corruption within the LAPD and then topped himself. That would have still received an incredible amount of media attention, obviously not as much as a murderous rampage. However, with that being said going on this rampage has made it easy for the man to be villified by the media and his cause is muted by the audacious evil of his rampage, the media and public could have made him a hero far more easily had this just been a straight out suicide. Instead he'll be remembered as a psychotic murderer whose drastic and depraved actions over shadowed a potentially good cause.

With everything going cold on the attempt to capture Dorner, the media is starting to dig into his story and the issue of his dismissal.

When Dorner was fired, he appealed the decision in the courts. Here is the court case file... http://communities.washingtontimes.com/neighborhood/conscience-realist/2013/feb/10/chris-dorner-v-lapd-court-case-file/

A few interesting things from this in relation to the overall picture. Firstly, the media has been reporting that there were 3 witnesses who said they didn't see the training officer kick the mentally ill suspect, as argument against Dorner's claim. Reading through the court case, 2 of the 3 witnesses were not present when the alleged kicking took place (just before the suspect was handcuffed). The 3rd witness also didn't appear to see the incident in question as their story didn't match either Dorner or the training officer regarding the part of the arrest where the kicking was supposed to take place. In the end, the court ruled that it came down to him-vs-her statement and her (the training officer) statement was enough to uphold the original decision to fire Dorner.

The second interesting story from this is about the judge himself. The judge has been accused of illegally accepting bonus payments from the county ($46,000 per year), and in turn never ruling against the county/state in trials.

On the topic of sympathy for Dorner, no one should have sympathy for him. The problem is that basically all action from the LAPD so far only support his stance and his portrayal of the LAPD. And that's on top of his grievances being sympathetic and believable to a lot of people who already see the LAPD as biased, racist, and a private club above the law.

There is absolutely no justification for ending ones life. Even if you have been wronged.

And the LAPD are just as fucked for killing innocents for driving a vaguely similar vehicle.

Interesting read. My favourite part though

Quote:
Tebow, I really wanted to see you take charge of an offense again and the game. You are not a good QB by todays standards, but you are a great football player who knows how to lead a team and WIN. You will be "Tebowing" when you reach your next team. I have faith in you. Get out of that circus they call the Jets and away from the reality TV star, Rex Ryan, and Mark Rapist Sanchez.

Paraphrasing a chunk of the rant...
Quote:
I lost my position as a Commanding Officer of a Naval Security Forces reserve unit at NAS Fallon because of the LAPD. I’ve lost a relationship with my mother and sister because of the LAPD. I’ve lost a relationship with close friends because of the LAPD. In essence, I’ve lost everything because the LAPD took my name and new I was INNOCENT!!! Capt Phil Tingirides, Justin Eisenberg, Martella, Randy Quan, and Sgt. Anderson all new I was innocent...Your day has come...I'm not an aspiring rapper, I'm not a gang member, I'm not a dope dealer, I don't have multiple babies momma's. I am an American by choice, I am a son, I am a brother, I am a military service member, I am a man who has lost complete faith in the system, when the system betrayed, slandered, and libeled me. I lived a good life and though not a religious man I always stuck to my own personal code of ethics, ethos and always stuck to my shoreline and true North. I didn't need the US Navy to instill Honor, Courage, and Commitment in me but I thank them for re-enforcing it. It's in my DNA.

Luckily I don't have to live everyday like most of you. Concerned if the misconduct you were apart of is going to be discovered. Looking over your shoulder, scurrying at every phone call from internal affairs or from the Captains office wondering if that is the day PSB comes after you... I stood up for what was right but unfortunately have dealt with the repercussions of doing the right thing and now losing my name and everything I ever stood for. You fuckers knew Evans was guilty of kicking (excessive force) Gettler and you did nothing but get rid of what you saw as the problem, the whistleblower...You're going to see what a whistleblower can do when you take everything from him especially his NAME!!!

Shit's fucked

EDIT
Just came across this pearler that directly juxtaposes the intensity and depravity of everything leading up to it...

Getting through that manifesto, the man is clearly unbalanced, the fact he fails to comprehend when recalling his childhood why he was disciplined for striking another child who racially abused him has me surprised it's taken him this long to explode with such a flawed sense of justice and lack of regard or comprehension of discipline.

It will be very interesting to see if the press do obtain the FOIA to see if what he says rings true, will be very damning for the LAPD if so, I'm inclined to believe the guy but he's clearly not of sound mind.

Reminds me of that Gerard Butler movie where he takes justice into his own hands after his wife and child are slain, in the sense of committing acts of extreme evil to expose the flaws of a corrupt system.

No one should admire this guy at all. At best, even if his claims were true, he is disproportionately punishing people (and innocents associated with those people) for perceived wrongdoing.

As someone said on my twitter feed said a while back "The LAPD are doing a remarkable job of making a sympathetic figure out of a wholly unsympathetic person."

Hard to tell if he's worth admiring or not.

If he's taking revenge on the LAPD, fine, but killing his old captains daughter was too much.

Surprised to not see a thread here about this guy. So for those who don't know what's been going on...

Wikipedia background into the case
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2013_Southern_California_shootings

Dorner's manifesto (original version and the media edited one)
http://pastebin.com/TAzPRfPy

In short, Dorner was fired by the LAPD in 2008 and appears to have spent a long time planning his retribution. His claims are that he broke the code of silence and stood up to his training officer in the LAPD, making a statement that the training officer kicked a suspect multiple times while the suspect was on the ground and being cuffed (the suspect was mentally ill btw). His statement was dismissed, then he was fired for making a false statement regarding the same incident.

Now he's shooting LAPD officers and anyone related to his statement/dismissal (including family). He's killed 3 people so far and injured 2 others.

So there's a highly skilled ex-Navy and police roaming around the place, having 4 years to plan his actions, and targeting the LAPD. A huge manhunt is on and a $1 million reward for those who help with his capture.

In return, the LAPD has managed to shoot 2 Hispanic women (one being about 70yo) delivering newspapers in a truck that was kind of like Dorner's (wrong model and colour), then crash into and shoot a skinny white guy driving a truck that was also kind of like Dorner's (wrong model and colour). It should be noted at this stage that Dorner is a large black guy. Both instances there was reportedly no warning from the police before shooting.

This is a crazy story. The fallout from this will be huge for the LA community and LAPD, although they'll probably try to sweep it under the rug.
