There is no money in regional NPL teams and sponsors will come and go, the reality (in my opinion) junior fees are needed to prop up these entities. As a parent I could see a benefit in having a team in the state league and paid the $$. My choice.
Unfortunately there just wasn't enough support from the community or the zone and everyone knows the result. We used to enjoy going to watch the local boys against QAS Srrikers etc, regardless of results.

"NORTHERN Fury coach Ian Ferguson has taken aim at the “internet trolls” he believes are only serving to shatter the confidence of the club’s young talent.

The Fury have endured a miserable season to be ranked last in the NPL without a win while they were knocked out of the FFA Cup with a 5-1 loss to the FNQ Heat last weekend.

Frustrations about the club’s plight have boiled over on social media, but Ferguson has staunchly defended the youthful Fury line-up.

Injuries to key players such as Michael Eisenhut have left the Fury short of what little NPL experience they did have available this season and Ferguson has had no choice but to blood teenagers.

Those young players, including under-18 trio Jordan Zabel, Mitchell Maher, and John Eden, have shown glimpses of their talent, but their lack of experience at senior level has been telling.

Ferguson said his young charges needed support — not negativity — to keep moving forward.

“They can slag me off all they want, it doesn’t bother me, but we have kids who go on social media and that negativity really affects them,” Ferguson said.

“It’s easy to be negative and throw rocks, but they’re a young side and they need your backing.

“I understand the frustration, but this is a five-year plan and we’re two years into it.

“We’re giving local talent the opportunity to aspire to be top flight footballers.

“It’s a big job and we recognise that, but we want to keep giving the young players an opportunity so they can learn what they need to do to play at this level.”

Things won’t get any easier for the Fury on Saturday night when they hit the road to play the third-placed Brisbane Strikers.

Ferguson admitted last weekend’s FFA Cup loss to the Heat was a heavy blow, but he said the Fury just had to get back to basics and implement the skills they display at training in match situations.

“We see it working when we’re on the training park, but for whatever reason we forget all that hard work and fall out of games,” he said.

“There are signs that we’re improving. We took a massive step back last weekend, but we’ll keep giving the young ones game time and see what they can do.

“I just want them to go out and enjoy playing football.”



"The Fury is solely there to provide position, power and payment to the Senior coach, TD's and CEO. No member of the Townsville footballing community has any say in its personnel, philosophy or function. It is a matter of shame that we have failed to Retain players, fully develop players for the senior team, failed to advance in 3 seasons under furgie any further than we did under Gareth, failed to win a game at NPL level in 13 games, we are into the third year not second and we have finished 7th in the last 2. From over 2500 registered players we get less than 50ppl at a game 30 of which are family members of the team and no one is allowed to ask can we do this another way, why are players opting not to play for the fury , or leave the town and or the game. Players in the fury youth pay $2500 a year to be there so it is feasible that their parents have paid app $10000 - $15000 before they get to senior level. So , far from attacking our players we are the only voice saying "are the football youth in townsville really getting value for money and the best football education that (the money that is being spent) can buy. The players don't need to ask if we support them nor if we are proud of them, we are truly the people who have their best interest and the Interests of the game at heart not the money we hope to make from them. Olympic have just won so we are 4 games from getting off the bottom of the ladder, but our season can not be saved unless the coaching staff go and we have volunteers to take over. PS the article in the paper is more about furgies self preservation than team loyalty more the pity the paper did not act responsibly and try to get all sides opinions. There is no paid coach anywhere in the world who would survive a 13 straight game loss in a single season. oops he did not like my suggestion. I got a bit heated when he touch me,but i did not sear which is unusual for me.
anyway he told me i dont know anything about development and that ian was not a professional coach and i dont know his true position in the club.

I told him sack him and if i'm right we start winning and if i'm wrong we just continue as we are.
I also told him to name any pro coach that has lost 14 games now 15 and kept his job.

Another week another loss.

The Fury need a revamp from top to bottom. It really irks me when I see media responses after matches such as, "we're a young squad, we're developing for the future, we're putting pathways in place, we have so many injuries etc."

The fact of the matter is, there are better players competing in the local premier league competition. For whatever reason, they're either not interested in playing for the Fury or they're simply not even getting a look in. Whichever answer it may be its significantly concerning.

The senior NPL team should consist of the BEST players in the region, regardless of age. We should be out to win the competition, and not using a cop out of saying that we are a development squad for the future. It's no surprise that the old NQ Razorbacks were genuinely at least pushing for the top four.

The Fury are simply coasting, no accountability whatsoever and completely out of touch with the local community and even local clubs. Would like to reiterate that I'm not having a go at any of the players, as I'm sure they're playing to the best of their abities, however it's impossible for a club (especially an NPL team) to thrive and prosper when the foundations themselves are completely lacking.
