This might be a one off but my friend got MVFC double up memberships...
Received their membership cards in the post today called and said this isn't for the section we actually ordered and were told they actually for some reason have memberships for both sections... said use the cards you have for the derby and sit in either and they will follow up with the other cards next week...
Anyway. This is just a sidenote - of no real value unless it's happening to a lot of people.

Thats better than the Wanderers fan who turned up to the fan day and went to try out his seats to find they were in a Bay that didn't exist. I haven't heard the outcome when he checked it out with the Wanderers office.

Just received an Email from Sydney FC:
Sydney FC would like to congratulate and extend a huge thank you to all of our wonderful Members for helping us to reach our Grand Goal of 10,000 Members for the first time in the club’s history.
On the day we kick off the Hyundai A-League 2013/14 season, the club has reached and surpassed the 10,000 Members target and hopes to continue to build on that number.
Sydney FC has also signed up record numbers of Junior Blues Members with 8,200 youngsters coming on board to take the Sky Blues’ family to 18,200.

Just to add, it's been around since I've been a member (three years). Unfortunately, it's take up isn't great despite the club's effort. I am personally a fan because it encourages the kid to come along, and ultimately drags the parents too (and possibly other siblings). Conversely, I've always been taught that giving anything away for free results in lack of value being attributed to said item. We run a program for children with special needs and we charge the parents, then refund them at the end of the season without letting them know they will be receiving the refund. If we don't charge them at the start of the season they usually stop turning up after two weeks. If they make a financial commitment, they turn up for the whole season... Human behaviour can be peculiar.

http://www.footballaustralia.com.au/sydneyfc/news-display/sydney-fc-reaches-grand-goal-of-10000-members/76949 Sydney FC Reaches Grand Goal Of 10,000 Members Friday, 11 October 2013 1:25 PM Sydney FC has reached its Grand Goal of 10,000 Members for the first time in the club’s history, on the day the Sky Blues kick off the Hyundai A-League 2013/14 season. The club has also signed up record numbers of Junior Blues Members with 8,200 youngsters coming on board to take the Sydney FC family to 18,200 This season’s achievement is the second year in a row Sydney FC has broken its Membership sales record with 8,462 Members signing up for the Hyundai A-League 2012/13 season. Strong sales in the final few days before tonight’s opening game at Allianz Stadium has allowed the club to reach the Grand Goal of 10,000 Members in the lead up to kick off. (7.30pm) “We set ourselves a target to reach 10,000 Members for the first time in the club’s history and I’m happy to say we have achieved our goal,” said Sydney FC Chief Executive Officer Tony Pignata. “I’d like to thank every one of our Members for their loyalty and support. To have reached our target in time for the start of the season shows just how passionate and dedicated our Members are. They deserve a lot of credit.” The Junior Blues Membership allows the 8,200 youngsters (aged 12 years and under) free entry to all 14 of Sydney FC’s Hyundai A-League 2013/14 home fixtures, as well as other benefits. “We are delighted to be welcoming a whole new generation of Sydney FC Members with over 8,000 young supporters backing the club this year,” continued Pignata. “We hope they all have a happy and long association with Sydney FC and I’d like to wish all of our Members and fans a very exciting and enjoyable season.” Sydney FC Memberships are still a cheaper option for fans wanting to attend the majority of home games and will remain on sale. The Membership also includes the cost of public transport to and from the games, from anywhere in Sydney. Members can take advantage of the free transport by simply showing their Membership card. Sydney FC kick off their Hyundai A-League 2013/14 campaign at home to the Newcastle Jets at Allianz Stadium tonight. Kick-off is at 7.30pm

Prior to last season this was 7,000 v 25,000 Considering how different the attitudes are of sports fans from Melbourne compared to Sydney in terms of the membership culture, this is even more astounding. Awesome stuff! I think its really starting to show that we need more rivalries for the A-league to thrive, ie. not just plonking teams 600km away from their nearest rivals. Would love to see a Brisbane and even a Perth or Adelaide derby within the next 10 years, it just adds so much to the league.

Yes Derbies are the way to go hence maybe 3rd Melbourne or 3rd Sydney team could be the surprise next couple of teams in the A-League. Both Perth & Adelaide would need to show there is a need for a 2nd team in those cities. Brisbane or Queensland is a shoe in, but where, as Gold Coast has failed, do we try again?

I feel this way too, people can keep suggesting Wollongong, Canberra, NQF, Geelong, Tasmania all they want but these places combined have less that half the population of Melbourne and Sydney. Plus the derbies they will create drive memberships since nobody wants to miss out on these games. Hence why all 4 teams in these cities are having huge surges in memberships compared to everywhere else. Theres a reason half the AFL teams are here and half the NRL teams are in sydney.

Yes off membership talk abit, but very true. Get Melbourne & Sydney right & the rest of country will follow. You have a template provided by AFL & NRL with both Sydney & Melbourne strongholds. 3rd Sydney, 3rd Melbourne, 2nd SE Queensland (look at GC V Brisbane Roar crowds in the beginning) & only 1 or 2 regional sides are the next few expansions. Gallop has already stated that. The big cities are where the people, sponsorship & big business are.
