Jets are over 9500, hoping that they can pass 10,000 on Sunday.

Was chatting to the commercial director on twitter.

I was surprised too.

Big gains have been seen in Bay2 where there were allegedly only 40 memberships bought at the time of the Active Support Forum, but there are now over 150. The financial side of the Squadron was a thinly veiled concern of some of the Jets backroom at the active support forum.

3 seasons of shit football but still having over 10,000 members shows either a) the football community of Newcastle have no fucking idea, or b) the football community in Newcastle loves the round ball so much that shit is ok.

I think you guys are being too harsh, you overlook some other factors?

- It's good value entertainment - well subsidised memberships, best value in the country, combined with general appeal, makes it for a competitive and attractive option in the evening entertainment marketplace, especially families?

- Snowball Effect - More who are there, more who will want to come. The Jets already have a strong base of fans now, ironically inpart, built on Tinkler's membership revolution, but now it's there and it needs to be there, for it to be, 'there' I guess (Remember - Palmer at GCU couldn't even achieve that, no matter tricks or resources - tickets had to be free to get fans) - Now you have the base, you clearly have that to build on. And again, the Stadium is more fuller to begin with, more attractive to draw more 'walk ups', members etc...?

- Heskey? You STILL have your BIG NAME marquee, the level marquee most A-League teams would almost kill for tbh! Yet it's lil ole Newcastle who has one of the A-League's leading faces on all the promos. He obviously contributed to the 'bump up' initially and surrounding excitement, but fact he's still there, providing some additional gloss, glamour - marquee appeal, MUST help? It's not JUST a team 'of randoms' who 'the average punter/sports' fan has no clue about - it's 'random young kids' + HESKEY, I KNOW IM!

- You guys probably know other more localised reasons - Maybe it's the details of the member packs themselves? Is there more of an orientation with the junior memberships and families? Are they like SFC and co with registered junior players Under-12s = free, kind of deal? That would all contribute to point #1 as that would well add to the familial atmosphere! Newcastle has a strong, how you say, local football base/scene, association, clubs, strong history and tradition and even their own Federation (NNSWFF is it?) etc... so, again, Tinkler made it very clear he wanted to 're-engage' this local base, and seems he has to a fair degree?

Disappointed in Roar, who have been good for so long, CCM, dont know what more they can do to improve membership numbers, Perth and Adelaide, both have been around for a while and stand alones in their city....

Heart have pretty good membership numbers considering we havent really dont anything on field as of yet, will be good to see what we could get to if we started winning

You may need to adjust your expectations given actual context for each. ALL are up on previous numbers - that's only good news. Some are reaching well beyond their previous record highs and even beyond their own targets. This includes both Mariners and Roar now. Let's be happy for that.

YES - Brisbane, Perth etc... COULD have like 8-10k members already, yes, Mariners should've had 5k members, seasons ago...

But again, it's happening now and it's good. Perth is it's own 'special' case for some reason. They bring up the 'Aussie rear' but that's something Glory has to sort out.

Brisbane are literally roaring ahead and they really could give their ambitious target a good shake. And in seasons ahead, they could inch up from that point beyond, hopefully.

And the Mariners are actually doing really, really, well now. Per capita their member level is actually quite decent, respectable now. They are easy the smallest market catchment in the A-League, far smaller market than Perth, Adelaide and even Newcastle. So they are doing just fine now. Hopefully over the next few seasons it can grow to 6-7k and even further, with their base crowds inching up over 11-12k average and more. And that in itself would still be impressive, as that's the level Perth and Adelaide are also striving for, at the moment. Roar haven't drawn an average much more than that recent seasons either.

It's all in context. Once these clubs get more organised and even expand their capabilities some areas, then we will only see them improve in these areas, especially as they learn from experience, what works and what doesn't.

If they are regulars then how is buying a membership too expensive. If you attend 10 it costs about the same as a memebership - more if you are buying tickets online and paying booking fees.

One reason which definitely hinders more memberships is the locking in of seats. If you have a group of 4 or 5 mates who go to games and some may not go to all games, it's too much of a clusterfuck to have one or two people buy memberships then have to try and get tickets together. Ticketek is a joke and I do not blame people for not becoming members as it is no doubt easier to buy tickets game by game for Suncorp stadium.

Agree. I was in this predicament until Brisbane came up with the 'General Admission' memberships - had a few mates who only came along to 2 or 3 games a season. So now I can sit with any of my mates or family if and when they come along.

Any updates from Perth or Adelaide? Surely that would push us over 90k.

We could also be dodgy and count the 12k junior memberships from SFC and CCM!

Perth's update of 5k was announced fairly recently, so don't expect any announcements too soon. THOUGH, with the signing of Gallas and memberships reportedly tracking well, compared to last season, atleast:

Quote:
http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/sport/a/-/soccer/19510165/french-ace-gallas-set-to-join-glory/

...Gallas would also be expected to lift Glory's membership figure, which is already tracking better at this stage of the season than in recent years....

I don't have much idea what Glory's record membership total is, though Glory's current figure can't be too far off from it - Surely the season record is no more than 6k, across Glory's NSL, aswell as A-League history?

In regards to AU - now they ARE due an update. The Adelaide Reds site hasn't updated their figure in quite some time now. Any Adelaide fans up to date?
