Mate played rugby league in the western suburbs all my life. Had multiple teeth knocked out/smashed, dislocated both shoulders approx 8 times (lost count) and dislocated my elbow so badly my arm was sticking out at a right angle but turned around the wrong way. I can tell you categorically that nothing hurt as much as being racially villified on the sporting field. Even if I hit the the other guy I still felt like shit afterwards and would think about it for weeks and still do now. If that makes me mentally weak then so be it but I have seen a lot of high level sportmen unable to shrug it off as well. I'm sure you would know better than to question the mental toughness of any athlete that has made it to the top of their chosen sport.

Great post mate =d> perfectly put into words how so many of my team mates/good friends feel. We always tried to keep it to just footy on the field, but our one exception was it was all in if someone said something racist to one of our boys. But it didn't help after the game when your mate can't celebrate with the boys because it has affected them so much. I'd like to think that if a racist person actually saw the affect of their words, they would never do it again, but I'd also like to think they would never say it in the first place.
