Adam Goodes has refused to accept Eddie McGuire's apology for his inappropriate comment about using the Swans star to promote the musical King Kong.

McGuire contacted Goodes in an attempt to explain away the comment, but it is understood Goodes remains deeply hurt, despite McGuire saying in a statement that Goodes had accepted the apology.

"I have contacted the Sydney Swans to explain the situation to Adam Goodes personally. Adam was gracious enough to take my call and expressed his disappointment," said McGuire.

"Adam accepted my apology and acknowledged my strong commitment and record in tackling racial vilification not just on the football field but in the wider community."

However, it is believed that Goodes sees the situation differently.

A visibly emotional Sydney coach John Longmire said he was "staggered" by McGuire's King Kong reference to Swans champion Goodes on Wednesday on Melbourne radio.

And even Collingwood premiership star Harry O'Brien has heavily criticised his president as reaction grows to the 37 seconds on air that McGuire is living to regret.

McGuire apologised for suggesting Goodes be used to promote the musical King Kong, just days after the Collingwood president apologised for a racist taunt directed at the Sydney star by a Magpies fan.

Longmire was sitting in a Swans match committee meeting on Wednesday morning when he received a text message from Goodes passing on McGuire's comment.

"He (Goodes) is still trying to come to terms with how it could happen," Longmire said. "We are all still trying to come to terms with it.

"Eddie was very close to the situation that occurred last Friday night and he saw first hand how upset Adam was. I just can't believe he said it."

Whilst the initial incident - a 13 yr old girl making a dumb statement was blown out of proportion - Eddie's comment was as dumb as it gets. When the environment has already been established - the politics of the situation already well in place - and everyone knows (right or wrong) that the comments are not going to be accepted - then for Eddie to say that... Begger's belief.

13 year old girl makes a racist comment and is removed from a venue and taught a valuable lesson, Eddie needs the same treatment.

Racism is not okay, ever not even a little bit. we are all racist at some time but when this happens you need to be pulled up on it. If you do it on a public forum/stage you need to be treat much more harshly, if you are a figure head and voice for a sport or club you need to be serverly sanctioned for it.
Look around your work place and ask yourself, if you referred to a collegue or client as a Monkey/Gorilla/King Kong, how long until you were reprimanded or fired?

Collingwood president Eddie McGuire has conceded his comments about Sydney Swans star Adam Goodes amount to racial vilification.

McGuire on Wednesday apologised for an on-air radio gaffe suggesting Goodes should be used to promote the musical King Kong.

His comments came only days after he made a public show of support for Goodes, who was racially abused by a Magpies supporter during last Friday night's AFL match at the MCG.

Speaking to FoxSports' AFL360, McGuire said he now believes he racially vilified Goodes.

"I'm not trying to look for excuses. Did I racially vilify? No, I had a slip of the tongue. But did what I say, was it racial vilification? Yes it was," he said.

Mate played rugby league in the western suburbs all my life. Had multiple teeth knocked out/smashed, dislocated both shoulders approx 8 times (lost count) and dislocated my elbow so badly my arm was sticking out at a right angle but turned around the wrong way. I can tell you categorically that nothing hurt as much as being racially villified on the sporting field. Even if I hit the the other guy I still felt like shit afterwards and would think about it for weeks and still do now. If that makes me mentally weak then so be it but I have seen a lot of high level sportmen unable to shrug it off as well. I'm sure you would know better than to question the mental toughness of any athlete that has made it to the top of their chosen sport.

We always tried to keep it to just footy on the field, but our one exception was it was all in if someone said something racist to one of our boys. But it didn't help after the game when your mate can't celebrate with the boys because it has affected them so much. I'd like to think that if a racist person actually saw the affect of their words, they would never do it again, but I'd also like to think they would never say it in the first place.
