My attitude is the reason why poverty rates are in decline. Simply prioritise the lives of humans above the lives of trees. Not saying lets cut down every forest so we can feed a few poor souls, but lets find a balance between environmental management and industry.

On the contrary, poverty rates are on the increase. The gap between the rich and poor has never been greater. Nice one, capitalism.

If you don't like capitalism why don't you move to one of those nicer economies like Cuba or North Korea? As long as you are participating in capitalism you are supporting it.

Yeah, but few of them are in thousands or even millions of year old ecosystems which we seem to have no qualms with destroying.

Have you ever driven up the east coast of Australia? Trees bloody everyone! There's absolutely no shortage of trees in Australia, no issues relocating koalas to trees where their existence isn't a barrier to progress. The land you currently live on probably had trees and millions of years old ecosystems on it to pave way for the house you live in. Even Ozboy and Batfink are currently profiting from the greed and environmental indifference of developers who murdered trees and koalas to build their homes. How they can sleep at night is beyond me.

LOL......Koala's only eat specific types of gum trees....not any type of gum trees.....

Just because the bottom percentile aren't as poor doesn't mean that there aren't more people living below the poverty line than ever.

In Australia it has increased from 12% to 18% in the last 3 years.

It's only 12.5% and that's a fair bit better than the 40% who starve in your beloved North Korea.

I love North Korea do I? Fuck this guy's hilarious. You don't support the capitalist machine and suddenly you're a North Korea lover. Settle down there, Ronald Regan.

Let's look at it this way: 90% of Gen Y will never own a home. Global financial issues plague our economy. In excess of 10 species have been declared extinct due to human impact since the turn of the century. Human industrial pollution is at a point where we would need more than half a dozen planets to sustain it and we're verging on tapping the planet's resources dry by the end of the century.

But yeah, the Capitalist machine is the system of the future.

Capitalism and Communism aren't the only cut and dry options for political discourse. Unfortunately the damage is too far gone to remove commercial interests from politics, make companies accountable for their environmental and economic actions and stop baby boomers' greed from financially crippling Gen Y and the coming generations.

Apparently global debt has reached $220tn. Exactly which planet do we owe it to?

Well erm if you're anti capitalist by definition you must support government ownership of assets and equal distribution of wealth, which would make you socialist at a bare minimum and a supporter of those economic systems which has brought death and poverty to millions. Capitalism isn't perfect but its pros outweigh its cons whereas socialism and every other attempt at economic revolution has failed.

Nice slew of anti capitalist pejoratives but lets look at it from another angle. 90% of Gen Y will never go hungry, global financial system are recovering and global poverty rates are on the decline. Mother nature kills off far more species than humans, 10 dead species isn't going to throw off the balance of the universe.

Glass half full and all that.

You know you can have separation of commercial and government interests and it's not socialism/communism, right? The first major step would be to ban corporate sponsorship of electoral campaigns.

You do realise that Capitalism brings death and poverty to millions too, right? Y'know, those who are too poor to afford food and shelter because there's no redistribution of wealth as corporate big-wigs hoard money like it's their lifeblood.

Well if you can't think of an alternative we're boned anyway. The status quo is better than the non alternative.

Even the Greens have corporate sponsors, it's not inherently evil. Money going out of the corporate wallet into the public purse to better inform and educate voters in respect to key policies and issues isn't a bad thing.

There is redistribution of wealth its called taxation and social welfare. Too much of it and people can earn the same reward staying at home playing the xbox rather than exerting themselves physically and intellectually to the benefit of society. Productivity slows, the economy contracts and eventually the state collapses and we're all too poor to afford food and shelter. Corporate "big wigs" are entitled to hoard their millions/billions (which gets recycles through the banking system and financial markets) as they're the ones creating jobs, paying the highest rates of tax and putting food on the tables of families. You take away the profit motive and right to "hoard" and you take away jobs, tax revenues and food on tables. Perfect redistribution of wealth is in fact an oxymoron as it inevitably leads to poverty.
