My 8 year old chilli plant died :(
I wasn't convinced that that it was entirely dead, but my Dad redid our herb garden and pulled it out.

yeah heat has ripped the arse out of our garden in the past 3-4 months....we have only had 12mm of rain in the past 4 months......even our citrus trees are looking sick...and no amount of water pumped from our dam works as well as rain does............

Stay tuned couple of good seed sites like http://www.edenseeds.com.au/content/default.asphttp://diggers.com.au/ http://www.greenpatchseeds.com.au/they have good info and seeds and heirloom varieties you have to watch bunnings sometimes as the seedling they stock might not have time to mature and produce anything but they still stock them and people buy....so watch for that trick of theirs.................

They are monsters, the Mallee is the biggest producer of spuds in Australia with our sandy soil and underground water supply.

Gentlemen
I have a ~6m long by ~1m wide area on my property that I am fully going to make a veggie garden.
On one side along it, is a ~500mm drop to the ground. On the other side along it, a 8ft high wooden fence.
Help me plan my veggie garden.
I want good, healthy & hearty fruit&veggies. I'm happy to water them every day or two, but am hoping for something minimal fuss.
Happy to install spikes/etc to help things grow up or down.
Hoping to not be pulling plants fully out and replanting all the freaking time if I can help it.
Help a brother out, help design my veggie garden.
Note: I already have a herb garden.

buy some premade vegetable planter boxes /tubs ... 3 or 4 should do it .. the ones made from corrugate iron are easy, wooden sleepers one normally need assembly , and you need to line it with plastic on the inside sit the planter box on some pavers, concrete etc so its nice and flat then start at the bottom, put down a layer of newspaper, then twigs ( or small brannches) then some hay or straw and then top it with good soil and potting mix... when you first water it, the soil level will drop , just top it up again and then plant
use drippers and a timer, makes watering easy
learn to propagate your herbs.. I do this with my basil , parsley, rosermary , oregano
place vegetables which like a lot of sun in one planter box , then as you move to the next planter, the plants will require less sun etc etc e.g mine get the northern sun, so first tub has chilli and tomato second has basil , garlic third has cucumbers , zucchini , broccoli
also use the space get a gutter a few metres in length 2 -4, fill the end caps drill some holes every 20-30cm in for drainage hang somewhere fill with soil plant spinach and green leafy vegetables in it.

Anyone here had laying hens before?
Been a long-term goal of mine to get some. The Mrs has always said I can have them after our yard is in order - which is getting closer.
Do's/don'ts for chickens? And for their coops?
Looking likely I'll have the space for 4-6 chickens.
