@BrendanSchwab Does this mean that @thepfa approves PPS for NPL/ state leagues but not @ALeague or similar? #justasking #myinterpretation

@edster42 @thepfa @ALeague No. We do not approve it at any level of the professional game.

3.24 It is not open to FFA to unilaterally introduce
variants to the training compensation system
which are at odds with the binding provisions
and principles of the FIFA Regulations on the
Status and Transfer of Players, which are agreed
to between FIFA and FIFPro. The PFA opposes
without reservation the proposed “players point
system” recently announced by FFA following the
National Competitions Review. It both violates
FIFA regulations and the principle of freedom of
movement. It will be challenged.

I said this would happen from the start.

Nothing too wrong with the points system encouraging the use of young players, nor the extra points for visa players - but the points to stop transfers is a massive disadvantage to clubs and players alike - causing significant problems for players from lesser clubs who wish to progress.

WOW! Breaking news. Union dislikes measure designed to (among other things) contain costs. I bet the FFA/FFV have been caught out by this and have only now just realised that this will turn legally on "restraint of trade" provisions in Australian constitutional, common and statutory law which were clearly described in a famous case involving the NSW Rugby league in the High Court of Australia. Caught out like this, the FFA/FFV have no chance of defending their position. Its all over. FFV should just give in now.

So you don't like unions? Ok. But what about the actual issues of the PPS?

And for the record - I can tell you right now that the PPS won't do anything to contain costs. Players will be fully aware that their club is being put in a position where retention is the be-all-end-all of squad management - so the best players at the club, particularly those who have been at the club since youth, will be able to ask for more and more. The limited number of transfers allowed will, in turn, drive up the asking prices for the very best players in the league.
