VICTORIAN police believe have smashed an alleged multi-million dollar match-fixing ring centred around the Victorian Premier League in an operation that saw 10 people arrested.

Assholes, they bring shame on our code as a whole.

Agree with both of the above... However, before banning them and kicking them out of the country - I'd like them to be left alone in a room with the supporters of their club for an hour or two.

Hopefully Victoria Police impose the maximum sentence on these flogs, after that deport them, and make sure they never play football again in competition - anywhere in the world. The English players - get in contact with the English FA and have them ban them from every non-professional and professional competition in the UK. Likewise with every other player found guilty regardless of their nationality.

I think FIFA regulations on stuff like this mean that a ban in one league will count across all of them.

Big surprise that there's cheating in an FFV comp. couldn't organise a root in a brothel that mob

That's why we pay taxes to fund police & other authorities .... to catch match fixers in sports, (whether its soccer or cricket, or to catch AFL sides that tank or as Dimetriou was quoted this week about his warnings to authorities to allow them access to taped conversations by police on match fixing)

we pay taxes.....to catch drug cheats in all football codes (eg AFL/Essendon, Aleague, NRL & Football), athletics, swimming etc etc.....

... we should applaud the authorities in doing their job.
Now I hope jail is an option

Ordinary career which was mediocre at best, with little prospects of reaching any heights.
Little chance of anything paying huge salary after football.
Here is an offer.
Someone comes in and offers thousands of dollars to alter some games by playing poorly and allowing few extra goals...... It looks like easy money.
It's been happening for years.
You will never stop it as long as people can bet I on sport.

Not sure I want them out of the country until they've served jail sentences.

If the VPL can gain overseas betting interest, you know that theres too much gambling going on.

Now is not the time for deflection, the NRL can worry about their own problems, this is ours and it's huge...we have to own it.

Are the flags next to those players on wikipedia accurate?

They're already relegated. At the moment it appears to be a case of a group of players and coaches conspiring to fix games - if so, hard to hold the club accountable, however, if it turns out that senior figures at the club were aware of what was happening (or even profiting from it), then I'd fully expect to see them kicked out of the league altogether.

The wiki squad for the reserves is not this years.
