With the requirement being for a Youth C Licence to coach U12 onwards at a NPL club going forward, I was wondering whether the clubs pay the cost of the course ($1,320 in SA according to the FFSA website) or are the coaches paying?

Would be interested to know what the various club policies around Australia are.

I would of thought we would have to be making courses less costly to grow the coaching pool and hence the coaching talent, especially at youth level. Germany and Spain are obviously taking this approach according to this article.

In Victoria AFC B $3190 AFC C $1320 for either Youth or Senior $1980 for both.

The AFC A Licence is $3850 Pro Licence Diploma $5390.

This is fantastic information. I am emailing the FFA later this week to discuss this issue.

On a side note, I have been doing some research in to doing my coaching badges. I think the prices quoted for the UK may be the prices for doing the courses at St Georges Park. If my information is correct if you do the courses in one of the other counties then the prices are significantly cheaper. At St Georges Park you are paying for accommodation, food, equipment etc etc.

The regional C Licences cost between $1200 and $1650 for AFC.

I think the UEFA Licences are not recognised in Australia. Maybe Brew could shed some light on this?

I just paid $1980 to do the Youth and Senior C License in Sydney, NSW.

The central C class is between $1250 and nearly $2500 depending on if you go residential. Residential includes 3 meals a day and accomodation in dorm style.

I saw plenty of people pull out after the first day and several more as the course wore on.

A long way to go from western australia only to pull out day 5 not to mention the expense incurred.

A warning to anyone considering doing a centralised course, the days ranged from 10-12 hours and there was around 1-3 hours of 'homework' a night depending on how much effort you want to put into it. You'll also have to do your practical assessment at a later date as they arent conducted during the centralised course.

If you are going to do it be sure to have read the full national curriculum and kelly cross' coaching principals book to ensure you are well prepared for whats to come.

It was tough yet very enjoyable and i made some good friends and contacts throughout. I reckon i will now leave it for at least 12 months before i go and do the B

Just also wondering if you pay your own course or if the club reimburses you in some way.

With coaching U12 requiring a Youth C licence it appears starting from $1,320 I am wondering how many people are going to pay their own course.

I know the club I am with at this youth level do not pay coaches and any course is at your cost which was fine for community courses. We do not get paid or any discount for our own son's fees as well. This is a NPL club.

Just wondering what other club policies are and whether say U12 coaches get some benefits or payments?

It was roughly a 60-40 split of people had to pay for their courses as opposed to those who were funded. Most of the npl people there had been funded

I agree with increasing the qualifications of coaches no doubt about that but my concern is how many people would want to pay the fee to get a Youth C Licence to coach the U12's, given the time to do the course, work pressures and family commitments. Plus not to mention the additional costs to stay qualified.

I think the FFA/Clubs/State Federations need to make these courses more affordable. It is a bit like playing the game at youth level, we want the best players but we make it so expensive to play compared to other football codes that in the end we do always get the best.
