Ahh well. Pre-drinks at the RSL it is. I'm certainly not going back to that Sizzler across the road against anytime soon!

You have Sizzler in Sydney. This must be added to the agenda of the October m80 trip.

Man, Sizzler was the bomb when I was a young m80 in the 90's - obviously none in Victoria so haven't been in YEARS.

Details confirmed for FFA Cup Round of 16

The dates, venues and kick-off times for the Westfield FFA Cup 2015 Round of 16 have been announced, which will see the eight matches played across two huge nights on Wednesday 26 August and Tuesday 1 September 2015.

The opening night of the Westfield FFA Cup Round of 16 will see FOX SPORTS broadcast the all-Hyundai A-League encounter between reigning Cup holders Adelaide United and Sydney FC from Coopers Stadium, the match to be the second time the sides will have met in the competition after the Reds knocked the Sky Blues out in the Quarter Finals last year.

In the other matches scheduled for 26 August, Melbourne City FC will take on Wellington Phoenix at AAMI Park, PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues Victoria outfit Heidelberg United will host Sydney United 58 FC at Olympic Village, and last year’s Westfield FFA Cup finalists Perth Glory face Brisbane Premier League club Lions FC at Perry Park in Queensland.

Then on Tuesday 1 September FOX SPORTS will show all of the action from Jubilee Oval in Kogarah as Rockdale City Suns face reigning Hyundai A-League champions Melbourne Victory.

Also on night two, Palm Beach were drawn at home for the fourth time in five Westfield FFA Cup Final Round matches and will take on Western Sydney Wanderers FC at Cbus Super Stadium, the scene of Palm Beach’s victory over South Melbourne in the Round of 32.

The other matches on that night will feature MetroStars against Oakleigh Cannons at Elite Systems Football Centre in Adelaide’s north, and Hume City hosting a second consecutive Cup game at ABD Stadium as they meet Sydney Olympic.

Similar to the Round of 32, FOX SPORTS will provide updates and crosses to the other six matches in the Round of 16 during their broadcasts of Adelaide United v Sydney FC and Rockdale City Suns v Melbourne Victory.

The other six non broadcast matches will also be streamed online at www.foxsports.com.au/football/ffa-cup/ffacupondemand and Apple TV via FOX SPORTS Now.

All matches will kick off at 7:30pm AEST with the two games in Adelaide to commence at 7.00pm ACST (local time).

Ticketing information for the Round of 16 matches will be released soon. Visit http://www.theffacup.com.au/tickets for details.

Gotta LOL at Palm Beach

They're just about to hire Robina for the 4th time in a year or so instead of getting their lights fixed up.

Apparently it is only costing them $5,000 a game to have it played there which is a bargain. Fuck they've been so lucky to be drawn at home on so many occasions.

You do know the draw is rigged for the NPLs to be at home against HAL ?

Probably because they're only opening 1 side of the stadium. Much like Clive Palmer did, and thus cutting down on the extra bullshit costs that Stadiums Queensland enforces upon tenements.

Definitely, because they're opening only the West Stand

and exactly what Palmer did.

Yeah i read somewhere about the rent being $5000 for them as well.

At $10 a ticket and 1500 people - thats not to bad - obviously food and gate staff need to be payed out of that but hopefully they break even from it at least.

 My singular encounter with Sizzler, which happened to be in Kograh, showed up over an hour before a game across the road for a quick feed. My two mates I was with had their steaks arrive promptly and cooked correctly. Mine came out over 45 minutes after I ordered (and the place wasn't that busy). Not only was mine over cooked to well done (ordered medium rare), it also happened to be cold. When I got the waiter to take it back and have a new one cooked, they brought the same steak back out, having not just further firebombed it, but probably got the U.S Military to Napalm it. They even had the nerve to stick a 'medium rare' flag in the top of it, which I daresay they had to get an excavator to chisel into.

When I asked for a refund (because we were now getting very close to kick off) they were more reluctant than Eddie McGuire to say something positive over the A-League. I finally did get my money back, and settled for one of those hot dogs that doesn't even begin to look like actual food, rather a wobbly floppy red dildo, and a bucket of hot chips, washed down with an over priced mid-strength beer at the stadium, which I enjoyed much more than my Sizzler experience. It's not very often you can say you enjoyed stadium food over an actual restaurant's.

Went to a pizza hut in Bendigo mind you this was an all you can eat pizza hut. I arrived thinking this could be cool not many of these around.

Open paying on entry and sitting down I noticed 3qtr if not majority of pizzas were gone and the rest cold. I was advised in 10mins new ones would come out, So I quickly forgot about the lack of pizzas at the start.

After 5 mins a large group of sea mammals with little to no clothing on trundled in. Foul mouthed and the stench was putrid.

As the kitchen doors flew open and the warm hot fresh pizzas came out the sea mammals like Usian Bolt in a 100M final sprinted to the pizzas, With cracks hanging out greater than the grand canyon and sweat beaming from there head they managed to take 6 large pizzas leaving nothing for myself and an elderly couple who were in utter shock. The scene itself could be best described as the raptor feeding scene in Jurassic park 1.

Having been only left with the salad option which looked like they had plucked grass off the front lawn i decided to give up and count my losses.

Popped into a bakery next door and enjoyed a nice sosauge roll.

From Rockdales website:

FFA CUP - MATCH DETAILS

The Rockdale City Suns FC are pleased to confirm that our Round of 16 Westfield FFA Cup fixture against Hyundai A-League Champions Melbourne Victory, will be played on Tuesday 1st September at Jubilee Oval, with kick off scheduled for 7.30PM. This match will also be the Fox Sports Full Broadcast match on the night.

While the Club would have preferred to host the match at Ilinden Sports Centre, the lighting requirements attached to player insurance for fully professional players could not be met by the current lighting set up at the Ilinden Sports Centre.

The Club explored both permanent and temporary lighting upgrades along with the Rockdale City Council back in May when we had qualified for the Round of 32, however, the cost and suitability of sufficient temporary lighting and the cost and timing attached to a permanent lighting upgrade meant that we would need to source an alternate and more suitable venue.

We hope that the local community will get behind the Suns, as they did in our previous match against Perth SC, which recorded the highest Round of 32 crowd for a match involving two NPL sides. Rockdale City Suns are a proud Club that enjoy passionate and vocal support at all our fixtures and are sure that this will continue despite the venue shift from our regular home.

Tickets for this fixture will go on sale at Midday on Wednesday 19th August, and will be available for purchase via ticketek. Pricing will be confirmed on Monday.

It's always my fault for bringing up the best parts of a football adventure. Booze and #filthyyolokebabs. To be fair, if Rockdale had fair dinkum lighting, we would instead be talking about cevapi and #ethnic food and Paulc hiding under his mothers bed.

Geezus, he must be desperate if he's hiding up there. Not exactly a 'pleasant' place.

I'll definitely get to the Lions FC vs Perth Glory game at the home of football in Brisbane (Perry Park).

An interesting article I found on the Rockdale City Suns facebook page regarding how much of a loss it means to the club and it's supporters with their Ro16 game being moved to Jubilee Oval, instead of it being held at Bicentennial.

Quote:
I did post on this some weeks ago, but in light of the venue change for Rockdale’s FFA cup match I wanted to bring back a memory from the former Illinden Sports Centre. As Steven Koteski remembers it, 5000 people packed into the ground (that has since fallen in disrepair) in 2001 to see Rockdale City Suns take on rivals Bankstown City Lions. Yet despite such an incredible feat, you would be hard pressed to find anything online that pays any mention to such. No photo. Nothing.

Illinden Sports Centre was established by people. Hard working migrants, some of whom in the 60s and 70s, worked difficult jobs to support their families, and the remainder of their meagre resources pumped into something they loved, being football. The current Illinden Sports Centre (1km from the original site) has very much that same spirit and established by the same people, embodying that same commitment.

Some clubs have succumbed to the indifference of the FFA, have folded and died. Others have seen their fan base completely diminish because their youngsters simply want to watch elite football (which traditional clubs are systematically prevented of being a part of, regularly). They didn’t think people, if left to their own devices, were capable enough to have clubs that were palatable to the greater Australian audience. As such, they took that autonomy away from us.

Melbourne Victory can’t attest to the above mentioned. It, and other A League clubs were conceptualised in a boardroom, by a group of people who wanted to establish brands. Not established around a group of people, but only done so in a place where they could ensure the commitment of owners or corporate interests.

I see excitement in the stands at A League games. Singing, dancing and it’s a great thing (I do the same when I attend).Yet without disrespecting any fellow A league followers out there, what is it that we actually sing for? “The Komiti”, “The Avala Boys, Olympic, Sydney United and many other traditional clubs sing for a team, as it represents who they are. Similarly the clubs I support overseas, Olympique Marseille and AFC Wimbledon, do so with passion that comes from identity, having overcome difficulties and succeeded. Fans that sing because their fathers created the club they support. I just have no idea how someone can possibly shout with anywhere near that same vehemence, for a team that you had no affiliation with the year (or week) earlier. Perhaps they are just happy to have a club to support, and I can respect that too.

This was Rockdale’s chance to shine. To show the uneducated footballing public their history, something amazing they created out of nothing, just like so many other community clubs did in our fair city. It was their chance to play the top team in the country, in a cavernous environment, packed full of people, shaking the fences, yelling, screaming…sends shivers down my spine even thinking how intimidating that would be.

Sadly it’s at Korarah, catering to issues concerning insurance for “fully professional players”, which the club is unable to meet. Will be out to cheer on the lads regardless.

Whilst I understand their concerns, it's a good incentive to get the facilities upgraded so when they do qualify for future FFA Cups, they won't have this issue again.
