How much does it cost Australia to do all this?

I'm sorry but if you ask this question you are a compassionless right wing racist.

It's not about cost, its about supporting everyone who can't support themselves. We don't work to get ahead in life. We work to make other people's lives better.

Blue font I assume?

Intended with a sarcastic tone but the point is serious. Anyone who seems to criticise the quantity of asylum seekers or question how much it costs us is seen as a racist or compassionless.

I'm leaving the country a day a genuine left wing person comes to power.

Like others have posted here already, which asylum people will have the leisure to just search casually the c and p website for this?? Better check before i flee if its ok to seek refuge in Australia.

This is nothing but a vote buying exercise run by BOTH major political parties. These people are covered under the UN Refugee convention, the government should be cracking down on people over staying their visa's instead of wasting our tax payers money.

I just thought of a crazy idea, if voting wasn't compulsory would the majority of bogans be bothered to vote?? If they don't vote then the majority bogan vote becomes the minor and these type of racist issues become null and void??

Sadly our country and both our major parties have become carbon copies of each other . This whole episode is designed to appeal to those bogans who love watching aca and listening to shock jocks .Our major parties are be sodden to the lowest common denominator which is sad

We tolerate too much mediocrity on our televisions, from our politicians and in our classrooms. 25% of Americans don't know that the Earth revolves around the sun. I reckon that the figure in Australia wouldn't be that different, and if people are that dumb, and they vote, what hope do we have to try and solve this difficult problem appropriately.

You mean well but I call bs.

I was quoting that exact article. I should have put it in my original post.

I'm sorry dude, you simply don't understand the realities of this situation.

The reality is under the Labor/Greens government you had over 1,100 asylum seekers drown in the sea. That's an extraordinary loss of life, a refugee genocide perhaps, thousands of men, women and children being sucked into the ocean to become shark food and die horrible deaths. No one gave a shit. All you cared about were your precious open border policies and blindly obeying the UN refugee convention, because you were more concerned about Australia's international image than you were about human life.

The reality is people like you don't care about these people. They are just statistical fodder, the more who come in the better Australia is, those who end up shark bait are the sacrifice for Australia's enhanced global reputation. How you asshats claim the moral high ground in all of this is beyond me.

Let's just push that problem further away from us. Awesome solution. If our government (don't care if it's Labor or Liberal), actually tried to contribute to helping these desperate people in some kind of humanitarian way, I'd support it much much more. Instead we've cut our aid budget and are acting like dicks.

Ok then, why don't they go to a refugee camp up the road in Malaysia and we can accept them as part of the ordered humanitarian program that we already run?

I actually in principle didn't mind that policy. Too bad the current government opposed it and prevented the required constitutional changes to happen to allow it to happen.

How can you say care about human life when the policies you support have caused the deaths of thousands . I don't know how you rationalise that in your mind. You say you want to welcome these people but the boats they're using aren't fit for purpose, they often sink and so do their passengers. How is that "welcoming them"? There's more to this than boats, it's called life. Clearly the lefties have no respect for human life, it's all about "welcome people " with broad cheesy smiles, whether they arrive in body bags or not is incidental. But by golly when an Iranian economic opportunist gets himself shot in PNG it's justification to reopen the borders again, which last time has claimed over one thousand lives. One life versus over one thousand? Only a morally depraved person would think the latter is more humane.

So an asylum seeker dies in a riot and thousands stage a vigil and blame the government.

#thiscountryisfullofidiots

Have a mate who works in PNG and apparently what the media is pushing and what happened are two different things.

Apparently they're holding candlelight vigils for the Iranian asylum seeker killed on Manus Island. Bizarre. I think it’s just one of those quirks of human nature, where 1,000 drown at sea and nobody gives a shit, but one person dies and it’s a national tragedy.

See you read Andrew Bolt's column and do about as much fact checking

We seem to pay for every one from everywhere as it is and we're still made out to look worse than Hitler. You're not making a compelling argument sir.

Seen a lot of anger over 'our policy' with regard to boats sinking this morning on the internets. How are we responsible for an over-crowded boat sinking that close to Indonesia?

Wouldn't we annoy the Indonesians more if we put our navy closer to them to intercept these boats before they sink?

What gives you that perception? The nation seems to have been going so terribly other the last 30+ years. Clearly we are spending way too much on foreign aid and helping asylum seekers, all of which have had no benefit whatsoever.

I think most people here support trying to stop desperate people making dangerous sea journeys to seek asylum. The policies of the current government and the previous Labor government towards the end of their term I do not support. My preference would be for them to try and stop the people smugglers. Recognising that this is very challenging I can understand being somewhat harsh to the people that do attempt to come over as a deterrent. However, if we are going to be cunts to these people, let's put our money where our mouths are and be serious about bringing in refugees from the right channels. Make a big song and dance about how compassionate we are and show that our refugee intake has increased in compensation.

Will that happen? No because there are many people like you that think "fuck off we're full and have our own problems".

The current policy of the government and the last one makes me sick . Refugees aren't a political play thing . Their human ffs ,both sides need to stop trying to appeal to the lowest common denominator and actually y ' know have a proper policy and not some catch cry of stop the boats or its the previous governments fault .

Well at present they cost a lot of money and the integration into a self-sufficient group within society isn't well reported.

Doesn't it concern you that we have thousands of homeless most lefties couldn't give a f*ck about and yet they're up in arms over these people?

Oh I support them but my support is conditional. As I've said in other threads, if we're going to let these people in lets let them in, pay for them to learn English and a skill so they can repay the country in time.

To me I don't care what we look like. Every big western country has immigration problems. What these ignorant lefties can't see is the long term problem with supporting unskilled people who can't speak English and who continually riot in detention centres.

I don't say f*ck off. If they come here, work and integrate and become tax-payers i'm all for it. If they come here and expect hand outs forever, then f*ck off.

What? I thought it was the righties who were against hand-outs?

Since you seem to be so enlightened, what's the solution to this that doesn't essentially cost Australia a hospital a month?

See you read Andrew Bolt's column and do about as much fact checking

"About 40 people gathered in the heart of Sydney’s CBD in Pitt Street Mall tonight to light candles for those who are feared to have died, after their ship sank off Java over the weekend."

40 people? Is that it? 200+ people die and 40 people give a shit. It's not even worth mentioning. Yet when Reza Berati dies the nation dissolves into tears, mourning and nationwide vigils. It proves it's not even about Reza Berati or asylum seekers dying, it's about politics and trying to tear down the governments successful border protection policy. The same people shedding all these crocodile tears are the same people who turned their backs on the 200 folk who sank off Java. Why no tears for them?
