Yeah I wouldn't think so. I mean look at this picture. He's perfectly positioned, but there's no way he can see the ball. As for Martin Atkinson, it hasn't been a good season for him. Sent off Rodwell with a ridiculous red in a merseyside derby, that was later rescinded. Then he didn't give QPR a goal from a Clint Hill header that was about 8 feet over the line, and then of course there was the Mario Balotelli debacle from last Sunday.

Even if it had crossed the line, which it clearly didn't, Terry fouled Cudicini. It shouldn't have been a goal even if it did cross the line.

Well hopefully it shouldnt be much longer before goal-line technology is introduced. There's far too much money on the line these days for decisions like this to be made incorrectly.
In any case, come on Chelsea

I can't tell coz some dickheads put a red arrow and circle in the way
But nah, seeing that angle, I'm still not sure, but it's certainly a hell of a lot closer than I thought it was.

It's certainly a hell of a lot closer than some made it out to be, and from where Atkinson was standing you can kind of understand why it would've looked over the line from his view point.
That being said I don't think it was a goal, most replays showed Ekotto's feet at the very least on the line when he cleared it out. But of course the referee doesn't get the benefit of that.

The other thing is if we expect the officials to give the benefit of the doubt to the attacking team for really close offside calls, is it not the same kinda thing with close calls like this?

Feeling very meh about that result, not completely unexpected.
Well done to Wigan played very well, but if I hear Roberto Martinez ever say anything about clubs near the bottom not getting decisions I am going to kill someone.

Great game between Bayern and Madrid. Bayern really dominated the game and should have won by more. The only bad part was some weak referring by Howard Webb... giving too many soft free kicks for play-acting, but when players made really bad tackles (2 times for RM) he didn't send them off. Also Bayern should have had a penalty.
It sets up next week for a really intense game, even before you add in all of the diving and dirty tactics.

Playoff dream over for Brighton. Great season, finished above both Palace and Portsmouth and challenged for the playoffs. And will never forget that day in August and Will fucking Buckley. Reading seal promotion with a 1-0 over Forest, Southampton need just one more point next matchday to join them.

Ribery was being a little bitch the whole game, my god he's an ugly fucker No, if anything Ribery should have had a yellow for that one. I'm referring to Gomez in the second half, sandwiched between two players. One defender got the ball, but that doesn't take away from the fact he was clearly fouled by the second defender, Coentrao, who was already on a yellow card. afromanGT wrote:Madrid had 6 less fouls and 3 more bookings, I dunno what you're complaining about. I suppose I'm complaining about the dirty tactics that Mourinho has had RM playing these last two seasons when they come up against other great teams, and his attempts to sway the refs by complaining about red cards when his team is often lucky if they only have 1 player sent off. Also I try to go by watching the game, not judging from statistics. The fouls are mostly due to the Madrid players falling down a lot easier than the Bayern players in general. Ramos made a late, studs up sliding tackle from behind when Bayern were on a break. And Marelo a similar late hack from behind. Both were very lucky to remain on the pitch, as was Coentrao (see above).

By all rights Barca should have smashed us but hey 1-0 is better than 0-0 and we have a decent record at the nou camp so we are a chance

Everything was perfect for Chelsea in that game. Their game plan, execution, luck, weather. Well deserved, although I have to say I was hoping for a Barca goal to make the return leg more interesting from kick off.
I can see Chelsea scoring an early goal, in the first 20 mins, at Camp Nou if they play the same as tonight.

Fact of the matter is we are already in the Europa league. In itself a great feat. Pardiola has done an excellent job this season. Getting into CL would be a bonus (a big one). But anything can happen. I would say 10-12 points is the target for Newcastle in the remaining games. Stoke, Everton and Wigan are good fixtures for us Id say. Its what we do with the other 3.
