I don't see how Muller dived. He exaggerated the initial contact (which 99% of footballers do when they get struck in the face with a flailing arm) then Pepe decided to be Pepe.

Well after just watching that I'm going for any team playing Germany.

If there's a bigger bunch of diving, cheating, c#nts at this tournament they haven't played yet.

Yes Pepe shouldn't have given him a gobful but in the US Ghana game where there was a blowup the ref came over and said "calm down lads" or whatever and off they went to play on. Both could have easily been given a red but the ref was more circumspect than that and applied some common sense.

And for fucks sake can just one commentator call a dive for once instead of this garbage of "he's made the most of that" or "that was a soft penalty".

This. In the end it wasn't the exaggeration from Muller that got Pepe sent off, after all the referee had called play on.

Not sure how he can take over from Rivaldo when Rivaldo's play acting 1) got someone sent off and 2) At least Muller went down holding the part of his body that Pepe made contact with.

I agree with both of you - but as we know 2 wrongs don't make a right.

Pepe has been one of the dirtiest defenders in the game for years and I'm glad he got his just rewards shame though for the portugese followers I know but Muller as well is a low life, the over acting has got OTT.

The sooner FIFA wake the fuck up to themselves over play acting/simulation/dodgy shirt pulling and arms over shoulders in the box etcetc the better for the game.

The Spaniards were just as bad with it against the Netherlands. Coaches are telling the players "anyone comes close to making contact with the head, go down like you've been shot". It's pathetic and should be punished, but Pepe had no business in going back to Muller and deserves a lengthy suspension.

Yeah, I agree that they should be able to question the ref, but I reckon the way to fix it is by giving that right only to the captain, otherwise it's an immediate yellow. Seriously, it's not like a ref has ever changed his mind because of a protest.

That's an average 5 goals in their opening games from the last 4 tournaments.

Ggotta agree with this. Appealing and inquiring to the referee about his decision is one thing, but half the team rushing the refs face, or doing what Ronaldo did just then, get right in the refs face and chase him, for 20 meters, arms flailing and looking murderous is a complete disrespect to the referee.

I agree players should have the right to inquire to a ref, but to chase after the referee like Ronaldo just did, is IMO unacceptable. Deserved a yellow for it. I get he's frustrated and upset, but that's just poor sportsmanship.
