The Wellington Phoenix have achieved the highest ever season ticket and Club membership total in their history.

Last season’s high of 3500 has been surpassed with 3600 sold and sales still strong for the season which begins on Sunday afternoon against Perth Glory at Westpac Stadium.

Phoenix General Manager David Dome said the Football United Tour, the quality of new players the club had signed, plus value for money had all contributed in the increased interest.

“This season we will have had our best ever pre-season and arguably the best team in the club’s history and the fans tell us they are looking forward to watching exciting football and goals being scored in a terrific atmosphere,” Dome said.

“Our season tickets are more affordable than ever before with 10 games in Wellington and three in the Hutt – a season ticket is half the season free over paying at the gate.

“Plus we offer a six game package and a direct debit facility where payments can be phased into easy monthly instalments.

“Importantly for season ticket holders and Club members is that there will be limited seating at Brendon Foot Kia Hutt Recreation Ground in February and March, so the only way of guaranteeing a ticket to those games is buying a season ticket holder or becoming a Club member.”

Does anybody know what number or percent of the total memberships sold to date are full memberships. I think there were not many clubs offering limited memberships in past years. Full year memberships show a persons commitmwnt and are a better reflection of potential crowds amd long term progress of clubs. But 1 game to 3 game memberships only serve to increase publicity and profile which is nevertheless good. I particularly wonder about the impact of brisbanes 1 game memberships and active support who are forced to take out memberships but would have attended all home games anyway.
Thats why the total as at end of today is more significant than at season end. It demonstrates rusted on growth better.

So potentially 8/9 clubs should improve on last season.

Absolutely fantastic news.... And like mentioned... Newcastle are hard to gauge due to their memberships essentially starting in a month... So if they do decent early you may see them at least getting close to last years total.

Roughly how many members sign up at first home match?

Well I'd assume a lot. I was going to do that. It's heaps easier. And you can pay in cash if you're weird like that.

The CCM Brand & Fan Engagement Coordinator has said they over 5100.

Massive rush for membership going on at the last minute for the Mariners. At this rate they will pass their record.

I think people get a little carried away here - a team from a region like theirs with near 8k members, that's still NOTHING to sneeze at, never-mind that the memberships are relatively cheap! I know our assessments are relative, relative to the club's own history/recent history and yes, in that context, they're down and that's slightly disappointing - but as some Jets fans have suggested, their lean years and off field uncertainty - you'd expect some degree of a decline, with those quite strong factors. There was also arguably the 'fad'/feel-good/cause factor when Tinkler first came in and almost re-booted the club. 11k enthusiastic members hopped on-board. In some ways it was always going to be down-hill from there, not to be a pessimist, but it WAS an extra-ordinary high, especially for them and their previous member records, which were much lower than the total they even have now!

If Jets can keep signing up 8k or more members, even Post-Tinkler era, then THAT would be impressive, IMHO. Hopefully the present total is the 'bottoming out', so to speak.

Certainly seems incongruous and I was think if it ever was, it certainly would've been some kind of technicality or a mix up of some kind - You had a crowd average of 8k attendees, or cores support around that number (Confirmed in that season you finished wooden spoon, still drawing that core of support. That makes more sense.



Davo, I wouldn't take those figures as gospel - they were just estimates based on very, very limited information. And I get my memory mixed up, but that season before, IIRC 2012/13, is the season which saw the upgrades under-way at the stadium and so the stadium capacity greatly reduced. That 'capped' our memberships or the renewals were around that mark or some such - as Glory/articles said at the time, as part of their complaints/compensation claims. So that's how the figure popped up, in the first place. And obviously a straight 5k is highly unlikely.

Atleast, for once, we FINALLY get to see 'a mark' for Glory confirmed and set in stone (via A-League.com.au). Then that's a barometer to compare them to, once this process resumes, next pre-season?

The 466 - that HAS to be Glory. The 5k figure has never been official and always been an estimate from indirect sources. They being atleast a couple hundred over 5k sounds entirely realistic.

Jets up to 7891 now. Another key factor already pointed out is that they're a month away from their first home game so the lag in their membership numbers is understandable. All things considered, the number is still very good and reinforces that the hunter is still a hotbed for football....

Sydney 10788, pretty sure that's a record.

Some Newcastle fans have also mentioned that they will sign up closer to their first home game. Let's not forget that due to stadium turf resurfacing, they won't be playing there for another 4 weeks, so plenty of time to make up the numbers. However it will be vital that they don't start on a losing streak otherwise that may certainly affect a rush of sign ups around round 5.

Okay so believe it or not, the current tally is exactly 97000!!

Also you will note that the total figures for last year are different to what they were previously. Edias noted that a few of the clubs actually had higher total values. As a result i had to adjust. Shame because it chews into our margin of growth this year, however we have still cracked the record set last year and we still have 27 rounds to play :-)

So all in all a very good result. I still think we will crack an overall total of 105k but it will be close. Unlikely to hit 110k though.

6,000 Members have signed up since last Thursday! That's epic.... I think Victory will go close to cracking 22k by kick off, we probably won't see an update til next week though. I would expect us to be on about 100-102k before round 2. Remember clubs like Melbourne City, Perth, Adelaide & Newcastle don't have a home match this week, and so you'd expect them to grow at a similar rate to what they have this week (give or take due to their weekend performance).

City +500
Adelaide/Newcastle/Perth + 500 Together

Therefore, 99k

Should get another few hundred each out of CCM, Wellington, Sydney & Brisbane each since the update yesterday/slash after this weekends game.

100k easily by round 2. I think we will end up with 106-107k members.

Bare in mind 10k members joined after 'our tally' round 1. However in reality this was probably about 8-9k due to last season not having as up to date figures as we do now with the A-League website.

Either way exciting stuff!

Some of you guys do some awesome work in keeping this up to date, thank you gentlemen!

Given we only needed less than 250 to crack 11k as of yesterday afternoon, I wouldn't be surprised if SFC break that figure and give Brisbanes' total a damn good chase on Saturday night.

Sydney fc 11,000!!!! How about that growth!

No reason why sydney won't end up wih 12-13k members this season. Massive increase on last season. Starting to think 110k overal target is very possible. Some ridiculous growth this week across the board.
