Yeah, make a flag for people who constitute less than a percent of the population purely for the purposes of political connectedness.

Keep the flag, but change the union jack to whatever Britain changes it too.

You mean replace it with something like this which has been seriously suggested? No thanks.

3% as of 2011, according to the ABS.

But yeah it's not a national flag for all Australia, if anything it'd be co-opting the Aboriginals to take it for the Commonwealth and unfair on them to nick their flag.

An a big no to putting Coats of Arms on flags, the vexillologists say the the rule of thumb for good flag design is a simple geometric brand able to be replicated by memory by a five year old.

Stars and Stripes, Tricolours, great, complicated text, complicated colour gradients, hell no.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_the_Northern_Territory

Design
The flag differs from the flags of the Australian states as it does not include the British Blue Ensign. The flag of the Australian Capital Territory adopted 15 years later is similar in design. The flag's colours consist of the official Territorian colours of black, white and ochre. The Southern Cross appears as five white stars on a black panel at the hoist. In the fly of the flag is a stylised Sturt's Desert Rose, the Territory's floral emblem since 1961, with seven white petals and a black seven-pointed core. The seven white petals represent the six Australian States and the Northern Territory.

Saw a flag yesterday that I was certain was a wrongly drawn Chilean flag, only to find out it is the flag of Texas

Took me by surprise - I don't know what exactly I would expect when thinking of the flag of Texas but it certainly wouldn't have been something so similar to Chile's flag.

Yeah, nah. As much as green and gold are our national colours I don't think they look great on a flag together. The beauty of the NT flag is it gives a nod to our indigenous friends without being as overt as the Aboriginal flag. The ochre also doubles as representing the deserts of Australia of which we have shitloads.

Here's one I found using a similar template

Think it should be the southern cross rather than the commonwealth star. The wattle already has 7 flowers to represent the states and territories.

Still undecided on whether the flag should be green and gold. It's nice to have secondary national colours:cool:

All these flags are real and most are still on flagpoles being saluted as we speak.

Avoyelles Parish, Lousiana can afford to skirt the "no fucking words on flags" rule with 16% adult illiteracy in their state:

Forget Photoshop, go for Powerpoint for all your flag design needs:

Photoshop gradients on a flag. Clearly learning nothing from Provo.

Are they actual MS Office clip art pictures?

It's not just US cities giving the finger to the no words rule:

But at least they used somewhat emotive words, as opposed to:

Inglewood, California's flag deserves to be on a pickle jar, instead of inciting at least three actual death threats on /r/vexiology:

If I was Dr. Dre I wouldn't be dipping through that hood any time soon.

River Gee County, Liberia gravely misenterprets the "can be drawn by a five year old from memory" by getting and actual five year old to draw their flag. In MS Paint.

TIL the Kiwis are voting on an alternative national flag this year, and voting for or against the winner of that head to head with the current one next here.

Here's the long list of 40, to be trimmed to 4 for the vote.

If they go for a non-Union Flag design, where will that leave Straya?

Thanks for that pad, some pretty decent designs.

Is there a way to see a brief description of each design?

Edit: yes there is by clicking each design on the url.

A lot of those ones remind me of American sports league logos.

The only one with a re-imagined UK flag looks pretty rad, I could see people taking that to football.
