That's not religion, that's just a mob mentality. Replace God with Bully or Capo and you have a high school bully gang or an active support...

Yes religion is on a bigger scale, but it's the same psychological effect.

Lies. Faith is the belief in something without the benefit of evidence.

Religious dickheads are illogical fools who act on "faith" rather than rationality which has caused nothing but grief to the world for centuries.

irony considering you believe in man made climate change based on your faith in the opinion of some scientists who havent actually proven anything

It's only "faith" in your mind. In mine it's determined on the balance of evidence.

erm no, its pure faith on your part
there is no evidence that supports the theory. its all speculation and opinion, much of which has been proven wrong over the course of time

Lol nice try. Faith is part of religion, not all of it. People who think that the abrahamic religions can survive without a shred of evidence are simply dense and the illogical ones in the situation.

Also, you should hang your head in shame saying that religion has caused nothing but grief. That's simply uneducated and really shows that you shouldn't be engaged with on the matter.

I've never understood how adults that were hoodwinked into believing in the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, Santa Claus and the Bogeyman haven't made the leap of logic to say to themselves hey maybe that God stuff is made up too.

I'm not hanging my head in shame. Rough numbers estimate 800 million people have died directly from religious conflicts.

You can believe in your imaginary friend. I'm going with the evidence before my very eyes.

That's not religion

Belief in a higher power and sacred devotion to this power certainly sounds like religion to me.

Pardon me, I should have said, "that's not religion's doing". Crazies and animals will always be crazies and animals, religion just supplies a vessel and a focal point for them. Which sucks because it drags religious groups thought the mud.

Go back to first principles.

Religion has been a means of enslaving man since humans first started to congregate in groups.

It's you that needs an education.

Do some reading on evolutionary biology for starters and then delve deep in political history in pre Christ times.

I agree. Theres good and bad in every side of the argument. Good Athiests / Bad Athiests, Good Christians / Bad Christians , etc. Nothing is absolute. Totally ignorant to say everything is either black or white in this world we live in. There are good muslims as well as bad muslims.

However what you can speculate about is the proportion of good to bad in a demographic of society.
But again nothing is absolute.

Belief in God without a shred of evidence is an "absolute". An absolute joke for the weak minded.

Take Jesus for just a example of the ludicrousness of the situation. Not a single thing about Jesus was written down about him until at least 80 years after "His" death.

That's like you writing about your great, great grandfather, that you've never met mind, based on stories you've heard around the dinner table and down at the pub. How do you think you'd go?

I don't doubt stories existed. The veracity and truthfulness of these stories is very questionable.

Besides Christians writings about Jesus there is virtually no corroborating evidence from anyone or any government or any adjacent countries to this "Jesus" bloke.

What I'm saying is that people who believe this stuff literally have rocks in their head. There is virtually no chance that anything written about Jesus in the bible can be substantiated barring his baptism and his crucifixion. Crucifixion being very common at the time to dispose of malcontents.

I have to take issue here with your slavery analogy. The bible was used for 1800 years to justify slavery. You can't then wheel the religion out to take credit for people coming to their senses and seeing that clearly enslaving people is not the action of a civilised society.

I'm happy to listen but you need to put up better arguments than this.

atleast there's a connection there, this was an 80 year running game of Chinese whispers. It's no surprise that there are many similarities to Jesus and the Egyptian sun-god Horus. Born of Virgin mothers, both sons of god, both crucified next to 2 thieves, both rose 3 days later etc....It's all just a bunch of middle eastern fairy tales.

Not sayin he didn't exist, but we really know nothing about him.

I agree. Theres good and bad in every side of the argument. Good Athiests / Bad Athiests, Good Christians / Bad Christians , etc. Nothing is absolute.

Edited by MUNRUBENMUZ: 11/8/2014 11:52:55 PM

Do you honestly think the stories of Jesus would have survived 80 years if there were no witnesses to the events? FFS

Are they still talking about Simpson and his donkey at Gallipoli? Do you know that story?

It's true right because ever since you were a kid that's what you were told.

Well 100% wrong. http://www.theage.com.au/national/taken-for-a-ride-20130306-2fli4.html

If that's wrong, and this happened in our lifetime's, how can you seriously consider something written by nomadic, desert dwelling, goat herders as the "gospel" truth?

Go on then. Bring out the evidence for the belief?

We could be here for days and you aren't going to listen/understand and I'm honestly not bothered to go through it all without someone who is willing to talk about religion enslaving man, but then not credit religion with stopping slavery.

Seen this a million times.

Easier to admit that the personal choice to accept (not sure if it's the right word there) faith in god is based on personal evidence which is not measurable in the bounds of science. Nothing wrong with faith at all until it becomes a word used in a discussion of facts and scientific evidence. Faith and science are and should remain exclusive.

Yeah, nah. Can't imagine any atheist ever strapping on a suicide vest and blowing himself and 2 dozens innocents into a million pieces.

Only blind faith and a strident belief in the afterlife could convince these morons to commit these acts.

Religious conviction or beliefs may not be wholly to blame but it's a big slice of the blue pie chart.

atheists are the biggest killers in history

Not even close to being the same
