Can only imagine the hoo-haa if this'd happened at a local soccer match.

http://www.couriermail.com.au/news/queensland/police-respond-as-huge-brawl-breaks-out-at-ipswich-sports-ground/story-fnihsrf2-1227058199487

SOME 100 people were involved in an all-in brawl after a footy final in Queensland’s southeast on Sunday afternoon.

Police were attempting to arrest a man at North Ipswich Leagues Club on The Terrace about 5pm when a large number of people allegedly attempted to intervene.

It is alleged a male senior-constable was placing the man in a police vehicle when the officer was punched in the face and fell to the ground, hitting his head on the gutter.

It is estimated about 100 men and women - who had been at the grounds to see the grand final match between Norths and Brothers - then became involved in the brawl and more than 20 police officers were called to the scene, armed with OC spray and tasers.

Still. There'd be that sense of satisfaction sending 2 dozens league brawl links to Rebecca Wilson et al.

I actually couldn't believe my eyes when I read a story this morning from Rebecca Wilson actually bagging NRL and praising David Gallop and the FFA.

http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/sport/nrl/rugby-league-bleeding-fans-switching-off-over-changes-that-have-ruined-the-spectacle-of-the-game/story-fnp0lyn3-1227056780790

GALLOP ON THE BALL

Speaking of league bosses, former NRL head and now soccer chief, David Gallop, should be congratulated on the FFA cup which goes into the round of 16 stage next week.

The David v Goliath contests have not only produced high quality games but have the round ball world buzzing because they are so inclusive of everyone in the soccer community.

He might have annoyed the you-know-what out of old league heavies by the time he left the NRL but there is no doubt Gallop is going from strength to strength at the FFA

Parramatta District Rugby Leagues Club (PDRL) chairman Roy Spagnolo has been asked to stand down following allegations of bullying, harassment and membership/election tampering in his time at the Eels.

The leagues club issued a statement on Monday after a series of allegations had been raised by Fairfax Media.

Spagnolo is the current PDRL chairman and had been chair of the Parramatta Leagues Club (PLC).

At a meeting on Friday the board resolved to: "address serious allegations of membership and election tampering of both the 2013 PLC election and the Parramatta District Rugby League (PDRL) election in 2012".

The statement said a disciplinary committee would investigate allegations made on Friday regarding membership tampering.

Members involved would have to front the board to explain their actions.

"In addition, the disciplinary committee will be asked to investigate new evidence tabled at the PLC Board meeting regarding the intimidation, bullying and harassment of former directors, PLC staff and PLC Members," the statement continued.

"The investigation has found evidence that indicates this behaviour was carried out with the knowledge of the previous PLC Board of Directors and the previous PLC CEO.

The board requested Spagnolo stand down "effective immediately, pending the outcome of the multiple investigations".

"It's very unfortunate that this has to happen after such a great season on and off the field in 2014," Parramatta Eels Rugby League Club chairman Steve Sharp said of the Eels, who just missed the NRL finals.

"Our board will do everything it can to ensure that our club will be managed with a commitment to openness and integrity; and for the benefit of members, not individuals."

NSW Police have been conducting a wider investigation into the club over the last two months with the Office of Liquor, Gaming and Racing probing the former administration at the western Sydney NRL club.

from her article

While there is little doubt the length of the season is a factor, the main problem is the game itself. This once overtly brutal sport has been altered to the point that it is now virtually unrecognisable. The changes made have seemingly catered for a politically correct audience that no longer wants plain old aggression from its rugby league games.

this part could be applied to afl as well, my father never watches the sport anymore.
