Referendum day. Surely there are some Scottish refugees on these boards? Your thoughts?

BBC wrote:
Scottish independence: Voting under way in referendum

People in Scotland are voting on whether the country should stay in the UK or become an independent nation.

Voters will answer "Yes" or "No" to the referendum question: "Should Scotland be an independent country?"

With 4,285,323 people - 97% of the electorate - registered to vote, it is expected to be the busiest day in Scottish electoral history.

Votes will be cast at 5,579 polling stations until 22:00 on Thursday. The result is expected on Friday morning.

Scotland will lose if they become independent. They don't quite know how good they've got it.

And like John Oliver said.

I'm of Anglo background(though I also identify my ethnicity as British Islander), and personally pro-union, The British isles(Or Britian and Ireland)share common culture, language, history, genetics and values, and I believe there is greater strength in unity.

Ultimately though it's the Scots decision and I won't be holding any grudges against them. I'll always be fond of England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland(both North and Republic) and Mann, and if there is independence or the U.K. does break apart, I hope all the countries can continue to work with each other.

You also have english, and celtic languages from Britain are closely related to Irish.

Maybe similar would be a better fit than common.

Out of curiosity, do you disagree with anything I've said? What is your opinion as an Irishmen?

Personally I hope they go it alone and New Zealand then changes their flag in the referendum they are having.

With both those in the bag hopefully that provides the impetus for Australia to become a republic and get a new flag.

I'm not holding my breath though.

God i hope the Ayes come through and win this. I'm English with big ties to Scotland but have zero love for the Union or this daft idea of "Britishness". From Scotlands view, I couldn't think of anything worse than being stuck with us and the feckin Tories. Only wish the north could go with them.

Not Scottish or British but I think a yes vote would have always been a hard sell. People are generally adverse to change so campaigning for keeping the status quo is always easier.

Like I said, spineless. Harsh as it sounds but true.

These are the defining moments that get enshrined in the eternal memories of nations, and for the Scots to have knocked this back speaks volumes. Not surprised though, given what transpired here in the Republican referendum 15 years ago

You can't compare a republican vote in Australia, to a founding nation of the union.

I think ours was worse, over the 70s and 80s so many policies passed through parliament that has virtually made us completely independent from Britain. All we needed to do is get rid of the figure head, very little else would have changed. ](*,)
