Draupnir wrote:jlm8695 wrote:Fuck sleeping on a shit couch or floor when a bro's got a quern or king bed tbh. I reckon. Sure, there might be a little less room and I do sometimes wake up with a sore lower back from it, but not sleeping on a floor. Yep have no issue sharing beds with mates after a night out. I rarely, if ever plan on where I'm going to stay after a night out. I always assume someone will let me crash at theirs. But it helps that I can sleep on the floor, or anywhere really, as long as I've got a pillow. I've spent the last 3 nights on the floor

We played sport in the street. Cars would look out for us because a half-taped up tennis ball could actually cause a dent in it.
After school tv involved the fresh prince, kevin arnold (and winnie cooper!), Mr Drummond (who was doing his bit to ease US inner-city race relations) and Mike and Melvin... "letter... letter... letter..." oh and who could forget SuperGran!
Finally if you wanted to know something you had to look it up in the Encyclopedia Britannica or as it was in our povo house the Funk and Wagnall's. Kids have it too easy nowadays... Ha ha, Funk and Wagnalls I remember them. We had the other Britannica knock-off World Book. Even they cost a shit load but still were far cheaper than Britannica.

We had World Book but my dad went on Sale of the Century and won a set of Britannica when he "went shopping" with Tony Barber. Usually still used the World Book as it was easier to read for a primary school kid and my parents didn't want me ruining the expensive set. Edited by mcjules: 22/11/2014 06:20:48 PM

That just didn't happen in my day, from about 7 or 8 years old that was not on. Are they staying over after a night out or an 18th? There's absolutely nothing wrong with sharing a mates bed after a night on the piss when you can't be bothered going back to your own place. Except when your alco mate gets that drunk he pisses himself in your bed. Didn't happen to me, happened to a friend thank god

here we go and wait for the backlash and attacks.................
Lats night once again after leaving an A-league fixture my daughter and wife were subjected to lewd and filthy comments by young men who think it's appropriate and funny........until i have ti interject and tell them that the comments are inappropriate and would they like me to make comment like that about their girlfriend or their mother or sister.......they just look at you with a dumb look on their face. In my day if you behaved like this you could expect a hiding....
on the up side i do like to see young ladies and men who know how to act and have good manners....like young men who introduce themselves look you in the eye and firmly shake your hand and call you MR ------, and young ladies who do the same....in this day and age it is quite impressive.

I made a commitment to not call my girlfriends' parents Mr and Mrs even though they wanted me to - Unless they were going to call me Mr Draupy in exchange. They weren't too happy about that. Funny that, eh?

Funny that, eh? not really.....you have to earn respect... usually when they introduce themselves and they shake hands and say hello Mr Batfink i say please to meet you that's very nice however there is no need to call me Mr Batfink, but they showed their respect.....sort of like standing up for ladies when there are no seats, opening doors for ladies, not starting you meal at the dinner table at a restaurant or at home until everyone is served and ready to eat....simple things that show you are a real human being

Age should never come into it. Just give respect all the time, calling someone by their first name is fair enough.

You talk about earning respect but then go on to say you should automatically respect someone older than you.
Doesn't really work like that.

What social decline? And define "man" ffs  Opening doors for women, pulling seats out for women and calling people "Mr" is being a man? I reckon going to an anniversary to celebrate people who died for your rights is more "manly" than opening a fucking door. Edited by Draupnir: 23/11/2014 06:37:31 PM

Women can open their own fucking doors, that's what equality brings you
I respect everyone until they do something I don't agree with.
Just because I don't call a person older than me sir, madam, Mr or Ms doesn't mean I haven't shown respect. Old timers need to understand the world isn't the way it was when you were growing up.

I agree with the Finkman. Although it's not required I still call my mates parents Mr and Mrs whatever even though they say don't worry about it. It's the way I was brought up. "Back in the day" that was seen as good manners. And as my mum says good manners cost you nothing. My kids don't call anyone Mr or Mrs anyone. It is a little jarring to hear it but I don't arc up. Would prefer that youngsters showed a bit of deference to their elders once in a while but the world's moved on I suppose. Edited by MUNRUBENMUZ: 23/11/2014 08:46:58 PM

Completely denuded is a bit paedophilic if you ask me. A full map of Tasmania is a bit how you going too. Nothing wrong with a little gardening and a nice landing strip to guide you in.
