Exeter City manager Paul Tisdale says the club's director of football and former Tottenham Hotspur player Steve Perryman is still "very ill" after undergoing heart surgery.

Perryman was taken ill at Exeter's last game of the season on Saturday and has been in intensive care ever since.

"He is very ill and will be for a while to come, we are hoping that he will recover," Tisdale told BBC Sport.

"We don't know the full extent of this episode and how it'll affect him."

Tisdale added: "It's going to be a long process whatever happens."

Perryman was taken ill during the second half of Exeter's game with Sheffield United, but Tisdale did not know about the problem until after the game had ended.

The former Spurs midfielder's role as director of football at Exeter is particularly important as Tisdale tries to secure players for his squad for next season.

The club were relegated to League Two last month after three years in League One.

"He's got a great deal of worth and a lot of value, particularly now," Tisdale said.

"He's been a cornerstone of the coaching department, the advice and experience he brings and the tenacity and energy he brings for doing things in a proper way and making this place function.

"He's going to be sorely missed for that work he does, [but] that's not to say we've given up hope that he won't be back here helping us again.

"But the reality is that when you have someone so valuable, clearly when they're not here you recognise that value.

"The biggest issue in all this is him, and his family, and him making a full recovery as opposed to the job he does at Exeter City."

Hard to argue against Berba being a world-class striker when he's scored goals at United even though he's never really had a prolonged run in the team.

No chance we'll get Lewandowski/Barrios, there's no way they'll leave the German champions, especially after flopping in the UCL this season. They'll definitely want to give that a better go.

Also on Vertonghen, interesting that you say you've pretty much signed him when the player himself has said that talks have not progressed and he fears that you guys won't be willing to pay what Ajax want.

Yeah he is keen to join, but he seems to think you won't be able to pay that 12m and that talks haven't progressed since he met Levy on Monday.

RVP has a meeting and rumours come out of what was said or not said and you say that only the people in the room know what's going on. Adebayor has a meeting and you know what stage the talks are at?

I hope he stays just for the North London derbies.

All I said about Adebayor is that the problem will be wages and not the transfer fee, and that's just based on his past history.

Rumour is Ajax are going to accept our bid of £9.6m for Vertonghen and he will have his medical before the England-Belgium friendly next week.

Hope Spurs get him as I think it is a real show of intent that they can get a player Arsenal was going for without CL to offer. He has been better press than the rest of the club lately. Also he is a good player.

Does he play with the national team at full strength though. He is fighting for spots with Van Buyten, Kompany, Vermaelen and his Ajax team mate Alderweireld. I guess he plays the opposite fullback to Vermaelen?
