If a club makes an offer for you which your club accepts then that's all well and good. If a club makes an offer and discusses it with the player then that's sweet. But players demanding to leave and thinking that they can call the shots and that they're bigger than the club does my head in. At what point has Bale done that? :?

If you're requesting to leave when you're under contract to the club then to me the implication is there that you perceive yourself to be more important than the club. Despite the fact that the player is under contract they're calling the shots - they shouldn't be. The club owns the player, not the other way around.

Yes, I agree with you in general - but this still doesn't apply to Bale. Real have publicly tracked him, made an offer and now he is considering moving to the biggest club in the world. He hasn't handed a transfer request in, or tried to fish for a bid from real, or said that he isn't happy,or tried to force a move in any way possible. He is sitting back and letting the clubs decide. It's probably the best way any player has dealt with an offer from Real in recent times.

I think Spurs should have been a lot more aggressive towards Real's attempts to tap him up.

The official line has laways been 'bale is nit for sale', plus they've already got the offer from 80mil, to 86mil and now to 105mil (saw this reported today). If Bale was the one instigating the transfer, there is no way on earth that Real would be paying a world record fee for him. Edited by vaughn2111: 2/8/2013 07:52:57 PM

First of all, I refuse to believe that Real have added 20m to their offer over the last 2 days. No chance in hell. It'd be 105m Euro - 90m pound.
Secondly, Real's players and backroom staff constantly talking about Bale and all that jazz...Spurs really should have told them to knock that off. It's all just an attempt to unsettle Bale and unless clubs make a stand against it, they're going to continue doing it and I think it's unprofessional and arrogant for the likes of Real and Barca to keep doing it.

Fair enough with the bids and look, maybe we should have said something about Real's tactics. But is forcing a world record bid really lying down and letting Real walk over you? Besides, we're on a different topic now

Reports in AS that Bale has refused to play in Tottenham's friendly clash with Monaco tomorrow.

Spurs have reached an agreement with the MLS for Clint Dempsey. Believe he is joining Seattle. Also AVB spoke briefly about the Bale saga after our friendly last night. Quote:Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas feels Real Madrid counterpart Carlo Ancelotti was wrong to go public with their offer for Gareth Bale.
When asked if he felt Ancelotti was in the wrong, Villas-Boas said: "I think so, in my opinion.
"Carlo is a person I appreciate a lot and we have great respect for each other, but bearing in mind this situation they have decided to make it public.
We have seen lots of people speak about a player that is not theirs and we are due some respect.
"These rumours of an imminent transfer are not true. The only thing we have communicated with Real Madrid is that he is our player and he is not for sale.
Biggest man crush on AVB. Haha.

Spurs with 3 new top class signings are far more dangerous than a system relying on Bale.

As it stands, if things carry on this way, its United v Arsenal for fourth spot.

Some talk building that West Brom and QPR are interested in Defoe. I believe I remember him saying that he wanted to fight for his place at Spurs, so I don't see him leaving. Methinks this is just follow-on speculation after signing Soldado.

West Brom are lacking in the striker department but I don't think they need more deadwood .

Granted Moyes lacks experience at this high level, but by the same token we've no idea how Pellegrini will adapt with City and whilst Jose is a genius Chelsea haven't strengthened that much either. Looking forward to seeing how your lot show though Vaughn, Bale or no Bale you've still strengthened considerably, I think Paulinho will be a brilliant addition.

Agree 100%. 2 new managers in Manchester, a new (and very much proven) manager in London, a well-strengthened side in north London and the only top 4 club (from last season) who's remained consistent (too consistent though). Now, realistically it means that it's a 3 horse race between Chelsea, Utd and city - but spurs and arsenal will be more competitive than last year.
