Avg. crowds for the past 4 afc asian cups.

2011 - 12668
2007 - 22632
2004 - 31877
2000 - 10634

please note these figures are taken from Wikipedia so I can't confirm them as absolute.

2004 - China, so they had an ever so slight population advantage.
2007 -spread around 4 host countries, which gave its crowds a handy leg up
2011 - if we can't beat Qatar, we may as well shut up shop.

This has and will be a great Asian Cup off the field, regardless of the final average, because we offer something most other Asian countries can't - genuine (and often very partisan) game day atmospheres created by many of our sizeable ex-pat communities.

Well according to ticketek it is. Wouldn't be surprised if more come online later, possibly holding some back for more venue pack sales....?

I cant see a big crowd showing up for Saudi Arabia vs DPR Korea tonight in Melbourne.

I'm going along tonight, but after the IRN atmosphere on Sunday, I am expecting a more flat crowd tonight. Many Saudi students are likely not back yet, as it is university holidays now, which will limit the potential audience there from their significant student population in Melbourne.

Hopefully I am wrong though and there is a decent crowd there.

I'm not sure if the applies, or is the same, or whatever - but I found when buying my venue packs (a month back now, to be fair) that when I did it online, if I tried buying them using any ticket collection method other than Venue Collection it wouldn't let me through. But if I chose the venue collection, so pick it up at the door, I got through.

If you're trying to buy online and it's not working, give that a try.

I have just made the decision not to go to the Kuwait/Oman game on Saturday at Hunter Stadium as it is on at the exact same time as the Socceroos v South Korea. I believe sydcor, heiny & EG are all in the same boat as me - watching Socceroos on the TV is more important than a live dead rubber game. I imagine many people will do similar.

So I expect the lowest crowd of the tournament to be this Saturday at Hunter.

If the North Korea supporters bay was like the one in Sydney, you might get a laugh or two at least

Bought a ticket to China Uzbekistan this morning and the PAX was 16270.

Not bad, hope most turn up. It is the potential first v second in the group. Of the 12557 that attended the China V Saudi game, approx 11500 were Chinese supporters.

China fans made great noise too. This will be a great game.

I think Canberra have looked good on TV, wasnt there all this talk of low crowds there. Seem decent to me so far.

How many tickets have been handed out for free at matches so far though? Hopefully not many.

The other thing, how many tourists are here for the event? Its hard to tell who's a locally based supporter and a traveling one.

Having such a diverse mix of population certainly helps us with an event like this.

Would like to know where you got this figure from. I was sitting just left of the halfway line in the Eastern stand (most of the bays on this side were close to full) and while all the bays left of mine were predominantly Chinese, to the right it was mostly whiteys. Western and Northern stands were the most sparsely occupied , but apart from the Saudi supporters in the West mostly seemed occupied by neutrals and the quite full Southern stand seemed about half Chinese half neutral. I can't believe the Chinese would have been much more than half the crowd, if that.

Okay, may have been somewhat less, but there were a lot of Chinese. Also, some of them had on white shirts rather than the Red. Don't know why. We sat at the northern end, and there were quite a lot of Chinese sprinkled among the crowd at that end. Presumably expats with no connections to the travelling supporters. I would say over 75%. We shall see tonight

Allocation Exhausted for all categories for Saturday nights Socceroos vs Korea game. Suncorp Stadium says they are working with the LOC to see if they can release any further tickets but its pretty much a sellout.

Well I'll agree that 11500 of the 12500 were probably cheering for China. In my bay with not many Chinese seated in it everyone was going for China anyway.

Players must be enjoying playing in stadiums that are filled. Since Aus joined I cannot remember having crowds like this across all games. I even remember the international media was deriding the Asian Cup in the past because of it's empty stadiums. Certainly raised the bar.

In 2007 the four host nations got massive turnouts for their home games, particularly Indonesia and Vietnam, which really boosted the average attendances. But apart from that the attendances were pretty poor from memory.
