Had it been 35 degrees and blazing sun, the SCG would have nearly filled out.

Yep, but purely as a judgement call based on where people were sitting when the play was on, there was pretty noticeable areas of the ground without anyone (as opposed to the crowd being spread out with gaps from people not attending due to weather). My understanding is that alot of cricket fans are spending on the WC and not as much focus on this summer series, but still i believe the football would of sold more tickets than the cricket and that is a remarkable achievement on Aust Day. This was a long way the best crowd of the tournament. z the excuses for not attending were many, but again this tournament continues to produce some great crowds. Looks set to average over 20k.

Was a good crowd nevertheless. Korean fa s make a lot of noise and get excited over nothing. Chilly conditions ffs, it was muggy as fuck, hardly chilly !!! I really don't see what the problem is with 19,000 turning up to watch a very poor Japan side vs an average at best UAE. I was thinking about going to watch but decided to spend the day at the beach instead.
The crowds have been good all round in my opinion and from what I have observed , alot of the people making up the crowds at Canberra and Newcastle have been travelling Sydneysiders.
The problem is not the size of the Sydney crowd but the fact that people criticised Newcastle's right to host a semi-final because you poor whingers in Sydney didn't get the Socceroos at your venue. Japan versus a very poor Palestine in a Group match in Newcastle - 17,000 Japan versus UAE in a Quarter Final in Sydney - 19,000 This is why claims of Sydney siders to have a divine right to host any football match they want is illegitimate. In other words, get over yourselves. Edited by ecce: 26/1/2015 10:23:28 AM Most of the bitching i've seen is from Melbourne and Brisbane tbh.

There will be a shiteload of Korean fans snapping up tickets for the final now, and thus, a lot of disappointed bandwagoners if we make the final.

And I imagine just about every Iraqi living on the eastern seaboard is there too. There's a truckload of Koreans living in the Strathfield/Homebush/Parramatta region in Sydney, and they all rocked up tonight. I wouldn't be surprised yo see 25k of them at the final. Credit to them, they are great fans. The Iraqi fans were generally awesome too, except for a couple of hardcore idiots who had a fight with the police. Edited by lastbroadcast: 26/1/2015 11:46:29 PM

Iran getting knocked out will hurt the crowd for the semi. That said, there are a shit load of Iraqi's in Sydney and Melbourne, and I'd imagine that that there would be thousands of Melbourne Iraqi's driving to Sydney in addition to the Sydney Iraqi fans.
From here, I predict.
23,000 Australia vs UAE at Newcastle 30,000-40,000 South Korea vs Iraq at Sydney If Australia make the final, 80,000 at Sydney 3rd Playoff in Newcastle, 15,000
That's ~150k more to come, we're at 503k, so we can still reach 650k+ total.
Also I just bought tickets for the final, PAX is 44,700

Very nicely surprised there and Strathfield/ Chatswood is the epicentre of Korean neighbourhoods as well. If Iran made it, it may have been 50-60,000. Nevertheless, a great turnout which many tickets will now be sold to the Korean fans this morning. Axelv wrote:Axelv wrote:1 week ago I predicted we'd get 650k in the tournament

If Australia do the business tonight then we should get the remaining 100k needed for the 20k average.
If not i think it's still possible but it will be close.

No more category 3 tickets available for the final.
Not sure if they will release some tomorrow but that looks like a good sign. I will go regardless of who makes the final because it's a Continental football trophy final.
Would love to see the European cup and Co pa America finals as well before I die. don't think I will ever be able to make a world cup final prices too high I think

Look good on TV. It's a shame about the ruling regarding all seaters though.

Just bought 5 tix;
PAX offering of 68,451.
Not too many left and will sell out tomorrow without too much difficulty. Hopefully the 3rd/4th playoff can get 20k+ too.
