How's the crowd? I remember reading the Chinese Community had reserved 3k seats, atleast! I wonder how many fans from China actually travelled here?! Tourism boon!

You know, if you judge on paper, or more by rankings and historic rankings and AFC tournament and WC qualification success - then you'd rightly presume that teams like Saudi Arabia (A traditional power-house of AFC football) would be rank favourites playing a China, every single time! But when you actually pair up a China against most strong AFC teams, then more often than not, it will be a strong contest - especially in games against their fellow East/NE Asian teams, most of them fierce rivals.

We see similar this evening - the gap is even narrower these days, so the likes of China may rightly feel they can not only compete, but win such games and even challenge in such tournaments. That's really where they should be and where the AFC would need them to be. We need to see China in the final stage of World Cup Qualifying and even qualifying for the odd WC more often - no offence to the Bahrain's, Qatar's, North Korea's, Saudi Arabia's and co, but instead of seeing those sides there and abouts the final round of WC Qualification all the time, would be nice to see China leapfrog or atleast be on-par with those kinds of teams.

I'm all for China winning this. Would be actually cooler seeing them in the World Cup. My presumption was, when I first started watching World Cups was 'where is China?' Japan were in it so I presumed they were as technicqally gifted. But N. Korea and S. Korea are comically this far apart as well.

Yeah - Interestingly, not sure if you watching the same FS coverage I am - But Aloisi said that Perrin, the China NT coach, said this team is moulded for 2018 WC Qualification (His remit is to qualify them for 2018 - so we all watch this space), so are less likely to challenge for this AC. Aloisi disagreed slightly suggesting this team at it's current level is a bit more capable of even progressing from the group, if they can continue to impress and upset more fancied teams like this.

Silly decisions from China last 5 mins or so, losing possession and dropping back, Saudi putting pressure on and it's resulted in a penalty conceded due to another Saudi fast-break leading to the last line of the Chinese defence scrambling, the CB throwing in a reckless tackle.
