Interesting article on FS today about the turnovers of some of these clubs.

Some are just staggering, like the Panthers making profit in the 10+mil range.

Pokies?

I remember reading about this a few years ago and if IIRC a lot of the clubs aren't stand alone entities but rather apart of a greater organisation. For example the Panthers rugby league club comes under a company called the "Penrith Panthers' or something like that. Most of the profit comes from endeavours outside the running of the actual team.

Yeah I've seen plenty of Aussie Rules footballers on nights out liberally and blatantly enjoying the gear in their off seasons.

The first year of my undergrad I was at a bar where a few of the teams ended up after their 'Mad Monday' celebrations and every time I looked down there were heaps of discarded baggies littered around the beer garden, I don't know how they don't get caught more often.

oh they probably do get caught but remember tbe three strike rule.

Yeah the rule is a joke.

I meant more in terms of people just snapping a photo and having it blow up on social media or sold to the press though, I've seen some fairly high profile young players blatantly passing around baggies in crowded beer gardens.

probably said players paying the people who took the photos or their managers finding out and doing everything possible to not let get out.

Penrith Panthers is currently undergoing a major redevelopment, and similar projects are envisaged for the other precincts that host Panthers venues.

The Group currently employs almost 1000 staff.

The Panthers Group takes pride in our position as a community owned organisation. The contribution that a registered club plays in its community varies, but we’re proud that the profits of the Panthers Group provide improved facilities or benefits for our members and our communities including our ‘Panthers on the Prowl’ Community Development Foundation.

I keep seeing these "grants" mentioned as well that a few clubs have picked up that seems to be the difference between making a 200k loss or a 5mil+ profit?
