You mean you didn't know who they were. I'm sure plenty of people don't know anything about Australia.

How good does a host's National team have to be? If we qualify for 2010 then you'd think we'd have a good enough reputation to get it over Qatar.

Korea/Japan 2002
South Africa 2010

Host nation doesn't have to be "good". FIFA uses the World Cup to boost the sport's profile in those nations.
