Dimitar Berbatov has left Ligue 1 side Monaco, the club announced on Monday.

Berbatov, 34, a former Manchester United, Tottenham and Fulham striker, who has been reported to be of interest to newly-promoted Premier League side Bournemouth, joined Monaco from Fulham in January last year.

However, 18 months later, his time in the south of France is over.

A statement published on their website read: "Monaco want to thank Dimitar Berbatov, this great champion, for everything he achieved for the club.

"His character, his professionalism and his great talent helped the team achieve their goals in Ligue 1 and in the Champions League. Monaco wish him the best for the future.''

Vadim Vasilyev, vice president and chief executive of Monaco added: "Dimitar Berbatov showed all his talent and great professionalism.

"He is clearly among the greatest strikers who have played for Monaco. We are proud of what he brought to the club and wish him the best in the future.''

In addition to Berbatov's departure, the club announced that Fulham goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg, who joined Monaco on a season-long loan, will not be with Les Rouges et Blancs next season.
