I'm watching the highlights now. It's thrilling to see.

How do they stack up technically and tactically against the Japan side that age? I wonder how they stack up against the likes of Belgium, Holland and Portugal.

Anybody know if these players are a long way ahead of the Joeys going to the WC this year? On the one hand, you sort of hope they are because it can't be a bad thing. On the other hand, you sort of want the Joeys to be this good because they could prove a force to be reckoned with at the WC.

Tactically we are in front of Japan.

Technically we have been way behind.

This cohort must have bridged the gap.

It would be interesting to see them play Portugal, Holland and Belgium.

Its difficult to truly tell how strong technique is until you play on a good surface against a good opponent

the wc joeys are better passers but these guys are a year behind
they are much better in 1v1s or even 2 or 3v 1s than the wc joeys
they are also better finishers and defenders

dont hold your breath about the wc results. A medium ranked team that plays a physical side that is defensively organized will probably do better than our boys and their careers will go nowhere where as our kids look better than the golden gen

Is this the first generation who have had the full benefits of the NTC for the entirety of their childhood development? The Millennium Generation?

Good to hear the quality football and the domination on the scoreboard as well.

They've had SAP training from 10-13, Skilleroo training at 13- 14, NTC training from 14 onwards.

When did small sided games start for five year olds? Was it in '05 or later?

My first coaching role was in 1997, I think. There was 7 a side for 7 year olds then. However, they were playing 11 a side by 11 years of age.

Now they start off at 4 a side without keepers for under 6s I think.

More prescribed formations for underage football have been advocated to develop for 11 a side football.

I think 11 a side has been kept to appease the naysayers who cannot abide change.

Not sure if your know this D but in NSW next year they are going to increase the effects of SAP and SSGs to up to under 12s and start 11v11 from under 13s given how successful it has been in NSW, apparently its part of the Whole of Football Plan directive nationwide too though i could be wrong.

But i think Han Berger and Co. may have left a huge legacy when it comes to developing our next gen of talent the skill level of these under 15s and the under 17s is something i haven't seen with aussie kids in a very long time!

And scary part the kids that might come after that at under 12 level, thank you Berger and Co! =d>

Overall fairly thrilled with that.

I would have liked to see the Aussie player who cleaned up the Singaporean player in the first half (and got booked for it) bother to help up the Singaporean player.

I'd also like to see a couple of the Aussie players manage to step-overs and Zidane 360 turns at speed and with good close control. One of the Singapore players did just that in the first half. It really is beneficial if a few players per team can do that. Still we don't know they can't do such things. We'll see. The close control and speed overall was something I've not seen from previous generations. And the fact that so many players were strong in that areas is really encouraging.

Agreed with grazorblade that the passing doesn't look as good as the WC Joeys (on the little I've seen of them) but these fellas are better in 1 vs 1. The passing ideas were right, it was just execution. That might have been hindered by the weather conditions. It also might have something to do with being less mature and experienced. I'm sure they'll get it right.

The thing that really thrills me about all this isn't just these kids in the national team but the fact that all of these kids were plucked from the state NTCs and some clubs. I'm sure there were a ton on kids who were close to making the team or at least in the same programs these kids are playing in. In the past it has seemed like most rep teams first 11 were basically the best and there was a gap between the first 11 and those on the bench and an even bigger gap to all the others in that age group. Imagine an entire generation growing up learning football in the same programs as these kids. It's going to be spectacular.

They also attempted to move the ball forwards fairly quickly a lot and played with a single midfielder in an attacking midfield triangle.

To move the ball forwards more slowly and patiently would've been easier to maintain possession.

This is all good in the sense that the media won't focus on a few talented players like Rogic, because they stand out from a number of medicare players.

There should be about 20 -30 players coming though each year.

Another sad phenomenon that will continue in Australia, is the number of people who will still think any and all European football is superior to Australia.

In these threads there will be many on 442 who will have not viewed these videos and have no idea that Australian youth is playing football like this.

To be fair, there are only a couple of thousand people in the country who realise this exists.mmost people think of awful footballers who get talked up for being 19 like Mauk, when they think of Australian youth.

Decentric, they need for Europe football to be superior to Australian football, because then this football is special- unique and they themselves become special- unique for following it ...it was like guys (In Australia) who follow NFL . but didn't have any interesting in other sports in Australia ...

Other way mate.... It's more uncommon to follow Australian football than European football. All my mates could name 11 premier league players, not many could name 11 A-League players.

Perhaps you can lay blame at the ffa for not fighting an effective information war. These young players and tournaments should be front page news, but we've barely heard a word on social media or elsewhere
