Just had our visit with the boys tonight. All in good spirits and bonding well. Seem as if they have come to terms with the conditions. Few boys were rested today so all looks promising for the semi. Still a lot of work to do tactically according to the boys but coaches seem happy considering they have only played 4 games together.

Should win this from here. There's really no one who will step up on either side of the draw.

4 games in 8 days in these conditions is tough for anyone, especially for a bunch of 14 year olds! No way they would have the conditioning required for this - nor would any Australian player of any age or quality.

There's bound to be mistakes, especially in defence, where the lack of energy contributes to the inability to be in position/close someone down, or the mind starts to fade and poorer decision making results.

Still a very good effort thus far from the boys.

The HAL will be in much better shape in 10 years time once there's been time for several years worth of fully curriculum trained juniors to graduate to the HAL.

Last night I was identifying all the technical flaws in Sydney FC players against Sorrento last night, not so apparent in the Joeys. Despite Sydney being in preseason mode, the technical flaws were still apparent, even on a good pitch.

I just hope more traditional coaches, like Arnie and Popa, if they are coaching HAL, can see the technical value of these young players, as opposed to their physical qualities.

Muscat, Darren Davies, the Spanish coaches in the HAL, Ange, and JVS would probably laud these qualities as paramount.

I'v e been concerned to see Arnie overlook the technically adept Hagi Gligor, a small player, for SFC last year. Hope Lowe uses him at PG.

Recently, I was alarmed about Arnold's views about Australian youth players. He claimed Australia's past success was based on players who could run all day. The technical qualities can never be caught up, if they are not developed early. Without the imports, most of SFC's Aussies last night were technically mediocre.

It was no coincidence they failed to penetrate an excellent well structured Jamey Harnwell coached defence, even if they were in preseason mode. Players like Brosque, Hoole and Naumoff have shown previously they are quality, but few other Sydney players were easy on the eye last night.

Arnold is a brilliant coach when the other teams have the ball, but is not as good when his own team have the ball.
With the wide pitch last night I struggled to identify his variation of 442. SFC played many square balls last night, which Ange and the Joeys rarely advocate or use.
