Any reason why Clive? What happens from here? They need to get some international games under their belt before the tournament starts. Edited by Barca4life: 15/8/2015 07:20:56 PM

But then again given they were due to fly out on friday it would have a last minute hour change, but it's for cash then the FFA don't know what they are doing.

I think the reason is due to rain.Argentina is underwater at the moment and all the AFA youth tournaments have been suspendid for weeks now including this weekends fixtures as the pitches are unplayable.

Anyone know when the AFC U-16 squad will be confirmed? I assume the squad will remain the same as the AFF team (potentially 1 or 2 changes if there's any injuries?) but curious when they will be announced as the tourny commences in 7 days...

This is still in qualification stage, we are in group with Guam, Myanmar and Vietnam. The games are in Vietnam starting 16th Sept 2015. I think you will be correct about the squad.

Same squad I believe. Leaving AUS on 8th and first game is 16th.
BTW did any of the U16joeys parents happen to get a video recording of the boys coming onto the field for the warm up before the Cambodia game? My son was one of them and he reckons was one of greatest experiences of his life due to the chili peppers music, crowd etc. As the warmup was 1 hour before obviously not on TV but thought a videoing parent might have got it as would love to get as a keepsake.
Pm me if so as would be grateful.
Thanks.

Olyroos squad announced. Quote:Vidmar names strong squad for Olyroos matches Aurelio Vidmar has named a strong Olyroos (Australian U23) squad for two matches against Turkey and FYR Macedonia in early September, as part of preparations for January’s Olympic Games qualifiers (AFC U23 Championships) in Doha. The squad contains 10 players from the Hyundai A-League as well as six players who have been included in recent Socceroos squads under Ange Postecoglou; Josh Brillante, Terry Antonis, Daniel de Silva, Chris Ikonomidis, Adam Taggart and Brad Smith. Vidmar is looking forward to using these two matches to test his players ahead of the upcoming tournament “These two matches against quality strong opposition are an important part of our preparations leading into next January. “It will be a difficult challenge for us with the players in the squad at various stages of preparation ranging from being in season, in pre-season or in some cases uncontracted, but we are confident that these issues will be resolved by October. “There are a number of new faces included as well and this will be their chance to see if they can fit into the playing group. “There are only a limited number of opportunities left for the players to claim a place in the final squad before we head to Doha in January and these matches will be a critical part of that process,” concluded Vidmar. The Olyroos take on Turkey in Istanbul on September 4 and FYR Macedonia in Skopje on September 7. The Olyroos and the Turkish U21 Men’s National team will play for the Friendship Cup which coincides with the Centenary of the Gallipoli campaign. Whilst in Turkey, the Olyroos will also hold a special training session for disadvantaged local children as part of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, year-long cultural festival ‘Australia in Turkey 2015’, with cultural events and performances taking place throughout September. The Olyroos will learn of their group opponents for the AFC U23 Championship when the draw is held on 12 September in Doha. Olyroos Squad for Turkey and FYR Macedonia matches 4-7 September 2015 Jack DUNCAN (Randers FC, Denmark), Jason GERIA (Melbourne Victory FC), Giancarlo GALLIFUOCO (Swansea FC, England), James DONACHIE (Brisbane Roar FC) Milos DEGENEK (1860 Munich, Germany), Joshua BRILLANTE (Empoli, Italy), Andrew HOOLE (Sydney FC), Ryan EDWARDS (Uncontracted), Jamie MACLAREN (Brisbane Roar FC), Mustafa AMINI (Randers FC, Denmark), Connor PAIN (Melbourne Victory FC) John HALL (Adelaide United FC), Brandon BORRELLO (Brisbane Roar FC), Terry ANTONIS (PAOK FC, Greece), Scott GALLOWAY (Melbourne Victory FC), Steven UGARKOVIC (NK Osijek, Croatia), Daniel DE SILVA (Roda JC Kerkrade, Netherlands), Paul IZZO (Central Coast Mariners FC), Cameron BURGESS (Fulham FC, England), Riley WOODCOCK (Sydney FC), Chris IKONOMIDIS (SS Lazio, Italy), Adam TAGGART (Fulham FC, England), Brad SMITH (Uncontracted). MATCH DETAILS Turkey U21 v Australia U22 4 September 2015 Kasimpasa Recep Tayyip Erdogan Stadium, stanbul, Turkey Kick-Off: 8.30pm (local) (3:30am AEST, 5 Sept) Macedonia U21 v Australia U22 7 September 2015 FF Macedonia Training Centre – Skopje, FYR Macedonia Kick-Off: TBC (local) Read more at http://www.footballaustralia.com.au/article/vidmar-names-strong-squad-for-olyroos-matches/cu2odbb0ggha19bc32ugmao5f#C2bPLqRCTAJmjZ7s.99 Why is Devante Clut not selected? It say Brad Smith is uncontracted so he did turn down Liverpool, but how come he hasn't found a new club yet? Seems like he could get a gig in at least League 1 if not the Championship.

Good question - I think he left relatively recently, like late July - going by that other article I shared and sources people referenced here not long ago. He was playing with Liverpool U21s right through July IIRC? You'd think he'd need to sort a new club soon, with season under-way - then again his agent may advise his value may increase as a free agent, especially surrounding the closing of the transfer window (Whenever that is?). Match fitness should be less of an issue for him, given as I said, he was playing Liverpool U21s as recently as last month? :-k

The big question is, coming from London 2012 - Is where are the goals going to come from?! Clearly we expect them from Taggart, Maclaren, Borrello, Ikonomidis, DDS, Hoole and co? Hopefully so! Going by the above assortment, could these be possible line-ups? Here: R>L Duncan Galloway - Burgess - Degenek - Smith Brillante - Antonis Hoole/DDS - Amini - Ikonomidis Taggart/Maclaren Edit: Apparently Brillante has been utilised at RB in the recent Olyroos fixtures? And in-form Maclaren was the preferred striker over Taggart. Ugarkovic was a regular feature, sometimes used at DM, sometimes at CB?! Irvine was in the team then, so he would've been a fellow DM, though Irvine capable at CB too - Odds are Irvine was DM those games and Ugarkovic the CB then? Here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australia_national_under-23_soccer_team#Results_and_fixturesDuncan Brillante - Burgess - Degenek - Smith Ugarkovic - Antonis Hoole - Amini - Ikonomidis Maclaren This side will be immense once Irvine drops back down, the depth at DM is strong.
