no news/reports on either FFA or US Soccer websites, disappointing.

Does anyone know much about Josh Laws? I see he is playing at Fortuna Dusseldorf but I have never heard of him.

FFA have just released a match report:

Quote:
Joeys draw with USA in France

The Joeys preparations for October’s FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile have continued with an encouraging 1-1 draw against USA in France overnight.

Melbourne Victory’s Lucas Derrick put the Australians ahead in the 64th minute with a smashing effort in the Lafarge Foot Avenir youth tournament.

However the Americans equalised with two minutes of regulation time left at the Stade de Beaublanc in Limoges to earn USA a point.

The Australians were the stronger of the two sides, holding control of the game for large periods.

Tony Vidmar’s ball-playing style gave the Joeys a number of opportunities early on, but for all the play in the middle they were unable to find a killer ball to penetrate the defence.

But the high-tempo game almost played the Australians into trouble, with a sliding goal line clearance from Aaron Reardon keeping the scores level heading into the half-time break.

It took 20 minutes into the second half for the Joeys to get their goal.

A solid sequence of passes found Derrick on the edge of the box, before taking a touch, composing himself, and curling the ball into the far right corner of the net to give Australia a 1-0 lead.

But it didn’t last. In the end, the Aussies were undone by a turnover at the back in the 88th minute and Gallardo took advantage to equalise the match 1-1.

The Joeys continue their Lafarge Foot Avenir campaign tomorrow against Stade Rennais FC, before taking on France U-17 on Sunday.

George Mells got called up for one of the youth NTs recently, right?

For the first time, but certainly not the last, I began to believe that Arsenals moods and fortunes somehow reflected my own. - Hornby

Interesting. Its kinda like the Nike friendlies last year when Australia apparently controlled the possession but ended up with a draw (though they may have lost that Nike friendly).

In that Nike friendly, USA scored at least one long range hail mary IIRC.

Would be interesting to see if this goal by them was the same.

Will be a good test against France, I think they are Euro U17 champions.

What I like about our U16s is that they can play a killer ball. Australian's are freaking awful at killer passes.
I make passes in my all age team that Harps and Slater would lose their minds over, purely because most Uassies at the top level seem to completely lack the ability to see thinks unfolding and play a risky, 'outside the box' pass.

the u17s are a step up but the u16s are mindblowing by aussie standards!

There are some who watch them with closed minds. All they see is what is on the scoreboard.

And of course there are some who have never seen them and would be astonished.

Off forum apart from FFA staff coaches, I know nobody involved in NPL football who has any idea about the underage Aussie national teams. It is one of the great things about this forum - the streams to these games.

By your estimate how many coaches have educated in the new curriculum ?

I wouldn't know about how many have been educated.

What I do know, is that when the likes of visiting dignitaries make speeches about trends in the game, many coaches don't listen at the big FFA](*,) state Regional conferences.

Many want the youth games on TV. Streams are unknown to a lot of senior citizens.

Agree, although it was very dominating match for the Socceroos, most of our players were forced to take an extra touch or play on their prefered foot unlike the under 15s whom have faster handling speed and are able to play 1 touch with both feet more often.

Therefore comfortable playing on tight spaces at most times.

Lots of firm passes get kocked back a metre or two before the reciever gets control which gives the defensive block a chance at a turnover
This bad habit was largely absent in the u16s
Also only rogic and luongo are as effective with their back to a defender

The finishing at u16 was better too

If they can get within cooee of the senior team physically and tactically as well as learning better defensive shape they could be a massive step up in qualoty

Well done Australia tonight. Ange can bring out the best in players. I think until the 15yo's crack seniors it's a bit of a big call how great they are. Plenty of excellent juniors haven't stepped up previously (Patafta, Markellis etc) I think many of the u23s have cut their teeth in tough physical super league competitions as well as well as playing futsal for summer and working on playing in tight spaces .There's a lot of aspects that will need to come into the equation and I think just let them develop without the pressure.

Osaussies reporting we won 1 nil to a jamie mclaren goal
pretty good win

at olyroos level the balance between results and performances probably shifts a little to the results end of the spectrum because by that age they should be reasonably developed physically and tactically
