Just seen the score of Vietnam vs Myanmar, the hosts are up 5-1 up.
It wont be a easy game on sunday, i remember what they did to us at under 19 level couple years ago.

Having said that, sometimes games like that can be dangerous and can breed bad habits or indifference. 9 goals second half, taking and converting opportunities and finishing strong (didn't see it admittedly) is a good thing and certainly of value. BTW can someone enlighten me of the actual name or description of the tight wingers/wing back system in use. I was listening to a book yesterday and it was 3 years old and he said that off side try and dedicated wingers are....dead!!

Seems like Sydney U58 got themselves some quality for strikers. Saw Mirza was awarded MVP for the game. Good on him, great way to debut! JDB03 wrote:14/0 well done boys. Some quality goals and the new striker Mirza looks very handy. More like a training drill but good start before we take on Myanmar. A lot more patient around goals which lead to very well worked goals. Some individual quality also.

u4486662 wrote:switters wrote:im pretty confident we can beat vietnam our guys have great skills. We've been thumped by Vietnamese youth sides recently. I'm not so sure too - as I tried to suggest before, the Olyroos or U23 level is pretty much 'senior level' football and so the quality and expectation of not only our teams, but our opponents too, only increases. What I mean is, just imagine if that group of Jordan, UAE and Vietnam was a qualifying group for our Socceroos - would we suddenly be quite so over-confident? Confident to a reasonable level, yes and certainly expectant (Our Socceroos are playing at a good level now), but same time - Jordan gave our last gen senior team a real scare, defeating them in the away game and temporarily putting our WC qualification at risk. UAE's senior team has the likes of Omar Abdulrahman and some quality, technical talent. Senior Vietnamese teams have been decent in the recent past too (AC 07?) and a neighbouring team like Thailand proved a tougher challenge for our senior team than expected, last WC Qualification. Yes, U23 level aren't quite the senior NTs, but some of these senior NTs can have quite some young talent pools, not unlike us at the moment, so their U23s can be full of current senior NT players too. Meanwhile our NT at Olyroos level isn't so convincing, the last generation was an abject failure and we are still uncertain as to how much the FFA, Aurelio Vidmar (Who retained his job!) and co have learned from that - the talent pool is good, but how that plays out we are yet to see, especially if the selection issues of last gen, rear their head again! We need to select our best teams where possible and show real intent, or else they will show us up and we fall short again. Nothing is a given at this level and these opponents aren't chumps. TheSelectFew - this is why I wondered if the Olyroos should have their own thread? The difference between the Olyroos/U23 level and Young Socceroos and Joeys/U17 level is quite great and as the Olyroos progress in their Olympic qualifiers expect the interest in their progress to warrant it's own thread? :-k Edited by GloryPerth: 17/9/2015 02:29:07 AM

Not sure if this has been mentioned. Young Socceroos tested by Coast sides 17th Sep 2015 9:52 AM Warren Lynam FOOTBALL: The Australian under-20 squad has been put through its paces on the Sunshine Coast. The representative outfit was stunned by a Zone under-20 unit at Maroochydore on Monday night, in a goalless draw. The Young Socceroos were also set to tackle a Sunshine Coast Team-of-the-Year at the same venue last night. The Coast side was set to include the likes of Jeremy Stewart, Sam Nickolls and Chris Jancevski. A Sunshine Coast Select team will take on a Football Brisbane Select team in a curtain-raiser to the Roar-Mariners A-League trial at Bokarina on September 26. http://www.sunshinecoastdaily.com.au/news/young-socceroos-tested-by-coast-sides/2777261/

In terms of the Olyroos, apparently Vietnamese fans aren't too hopeful this time around. While they have players with decent tekkers, apparently their u23 coach prefers to sit back and counter with long balls which doesn't really suit their players strengths.
We shall see.

Mmm. Seemed like a tough game with no scores in the 2nd half. Think they beat this team in Canbodia 4-0 if I remember correctly.
Can a parent at the game please give us a rundown?

18-nil apparently, it looks like we have to rely on being of the best 2nd placed teams then...
Must be a good Vietnam youth team like the last one.

Did they send a weakened team to the AFF? Surely they couldn't have improved that much since then. They only finished 4th in their group, their only win against Brunei.

Got the 3 points after a inconsistent performance in saying this we did have quite a few good chance to put the game away. Myanmar did well to stop us from playing flooding the midfield and defence. The ground is a disgrace for a international game and really doesn't suit our style. Quite a few bad passes today that needs to change and decision making needs to improve. We will need to improve before we play Vietnam.
