Do you need reminding of who the 1999 runners-up Joeys were?

The correlation between winning U-17 World Cups and success at senior level is insignificant.

Yes it is but then why are we even playing if we don't think it'll help.

The FFA could save themselves millions by disbanding these teams ASAP.

Of course it's important and results matter (but not the be all and end all.)

As a hypothetical if we won this tournament and these lads went on and won the under 19's and then they made the semis or the final at the Olympics and then they got selected in numbers to play for the socceroos would you still be telling me that results don't matter?

Or are they still in a "development phase"?

I'm not interested in hypotheticals, I care about evidence-based facts only. The correlation between success at U-17 level and success at senior world cup level is not significant.

Top 4 U-17 performing countries:
1. Nigeria
2. Brazil
3. Mexico
4 Soviet Union

Top 4 Fifa World Cup performing nations:
1. Brazil
2. Germany
3. Italy
4. Argentina

However, should underage national teams be disbanded in order to save the FFA money and look to develop these players by other means? I think that is a question worth investigating.

Seen enough, these boys need to cheer the fuck up.

The Nigerian defense just has to sit on a player and we're fucked. How stupid this philosophy is.. first it was supposed to be positive, we're supposed to BREAK OUT of this Dutch defensive mould. Now we're just pathetic and wasting possession passing to manned players

No imagination or fantasy.

By now, American Samoa must have realised that Australias 22-0 win over Tonga two days earlier was no fluke.

Wrong.

Nigeria - best result is Round of 16, same as Australia
Mexico - best result is Quarter-finals, prior to any success at U-17 level
Soviet Union - best result Fourth Place in 1966, long before the U-17 WC existed and when they were an amalgamation of many different nations.

The odd one out is Brazil, which is no suprise.

Are you listening to the commentary Decentric. All the stuff about technique and naive defending, missing vision, wayward passing, positioning?

All the stuff I was saying we lack but all you can crap on about is diamonds and triangles and how I don't "understand" what the curriculum is about.

FFS.

Seriously you would prefer Australia over any of those 4 teams above?

Put our socceroos up against any of their senior sides and 9 out of 10 times we'd come away with a loss.

Are you the one commentating? He's very negative about everything.

When Bournemouth get beaten by Man city they don't bitch and complain about how shit they are they just deal with the fact they lost to one of the best teams in the world.

We are talking about correlation between U-17 WC success and Senior WC success. ](*,)

Also you are talking about hypotheticals again.

People in denial always try and build strawman arguments.
