Saudi's are better than the tiny Asian nations, most arab teams

I just don't get how Aussie managers can't read them, every game counter attack, lump defenders in midfield and cherry pick.

It is so there favourite style of game, they will snap up half a chance.

You simply need to watch their leagues to understand that

A bit like in the senior squad tbh.

Putting aside Timmy Last legs, the only other striker I see us using is Juric, who for mine is very inconsistent and very injury prone. Case in point right now. Hits some good form then gets injured. Was the same WSW.

We need to start developing top strikers.

stats of course don't show everything of course
any surprises here? If I'm not mistaken only 2 players from the above were in vidmars starting 11

They appeared to be noted heavily in the Brillante thread by a certain poster.

I believe your statement would have been appropriate there as well.

Doesn't help all the young strikers that come thru end up lumped on the wing and a visa player brought in instead.

This is what i want to see in the next game.

Given they had problems combining in the front third with the front three and had problems keeping the ball from the second to the third they need some control and the ability to penetrate into the last line from midfield.
We need more forward runs going into the box from the front 3 too.

Also i would like to see how Deng would go in place of GG or Donachie, he's quite efficient on 1v1 defending.

---------------------------------------Duncan----------------------------------

Galloway--------------Deng-------------------------GG----------------------Gersbach-------

-------------------------------------Brillante--------------------------------------

-------------------------Antonis----------------------Amini---------------------------

Borrello------------------------------McLaren------------------------------Hoole--------

Three points:

Borrello and McLaren have a good understanding, they should be like in the first game.

Gersbach and Hoole on the left given their understanding on that side, with Pain and Gersbach given both want to hug the touchline and they struggled to combine and often turn the ball over.

Brillante as No.6 should just protect the back 4, Antonis as the controlling No.8 who can forward when needed and Amini(No.10) as the creative outlet when combining with the front 3, also has the ability to play killer passes to feed the likes of Borrello and McLaren and Gersbach overlapping Hoole.
Edwards or Mauk should be brought on either in midfield or in the front 3 when looking to combine better with the other attackers.

If they going to play this way basically they need better combinations in the last third and better control when playing into the midfield lines.

Bang on the money, Switters.

I am one of about 40 fortunate people in the country who have been trained in both KNVB and FFA coach education. FFA is a little different.

Recently I've seen the value in some of the things I've learnt in FFA coach education compared to to KNVB. In the past I've always extolled the good KNVB stuff I didn't learn in FFA coach education. I've learnt more good defensive stuff through KNVB and more good attacking stuff through FFA.

FFA methodology is a combination of German, Spanish, French and Dutch methodology.

I don't think Vidmar is a donkey, he has taken AU to an ACL final. =d>

However, it seems like he, Okon, et al, have set on a pathway with a few players since the age of 16 to be in a national system. I think what has happened in the last few years is many players outside the FFA pathway have overtaken the incumbents at club level.

Deng has done better with MV than Gallifuoco. O'Neill has done more than any other central midfielder in the last few months.

I'm starting to think the value of the Olyroos is questionable whilst Asian Confed play qualifiers in windows when Euro clubs don't release players. In the back line, Galloway, Donachie and Gallifuoco, are not playing regular, senior pro football ATM. All may be good players but they are not match fit.

Dylan Murnane has played more minutes than most. Where is he?

CCM also have a lot of young regular footballers.

Where are Jordan Elsey and that strapping Jets CB?

Glory has that young striker who came on last night.

City have heaps of young guns. Why have Melling, Retre et al, been overlooked?

To the best of my knowledge, Antonis, Brillante and Ugarkovic, haven't been playing week in and week out either.

Ditto Pain.

McLaren, Gersbach and Hoole have.

To base an Olympic qualifying campaign on so may not playing regular, senior pro football is bemusing.

Although some are injured, Geria, Chapman, Ansell, and innumerable others are playing/have been playing better than players in the team against UAE.

One positive is that Australia' s players in the 20 -25 age group have a lot more depth and talent than ever before. The lost generation of 26- 34 are being phased out.

We will never again have a scenario like 2006, when 15 players stood out enough to play all the World Cup minutes.

The only players it seems who don't have to look over their shoulder ATM appear to be Jedi, Luongo and Davo - Ange's favourites. They don't seem to have to meet selection criteria most others selected do - play regular football at club level.

i want Australia to win the group D if they can. i dont want my country Korea to face australia in the quarterfinals tbh. i would rather want to face Jordan, Vietnam or uae if it is possible. It is very likely Korea win group C so we might meet 2nd group D.
So if Australia is not going to win group D just be eliminated \:d/

Must admit in a previous post, I thought the game had finished when it hadn't . There was a disallowed own goal we conceded in the FFA replay. There was to no time on the FFA website. I didn't realise there was so much of the game to play.#-o

Based on what I saw the game was very even. Our attacking interplay was disjointed though.

Our players, many who are not playing regularly, also made a lot more mistakes than I've seen them do at senior pro club level. This is probably a product of not playing regular enough football. At this age, players who don't play regular football at club level lose confidence and form quickly.

Agree with some of what you say but you are off the mark with Elsey, Rainers and the CCM youth players .
O'neill and Deng are definite starters, would also have Melling in the squad , remember you don't need to be 6"plus to be a decent footballer .
